Half the gallon is thinner that's going to evaporate. Not sure how much of the plasti-dip itself is solvent that will evap. Anyway, half at least is going to gas off so shouldn't be any weight gain there.

So you used 4 gallons? how many coats did you spray, I watched a bunch of videos last night and it seems 6 is about what they recommend.

do you think this will hold up against light trail scratches? I'm really interested in this idea. I may be calling on your help with this in the next few months when it warms up.

Not sure but I think if you use a quick wax it will make the finish smoother to the touch. I'm sure the truck will get some trail time soon and I'll be able to test the durability.

Got around to doing the weather stripping around the flares with an exacto. Tedious but worth it.

please keep us informed. I'm interested in wrapping my truck, but if this is essentially a liquid wrap than its going to be way easier to apply by spraying on the truck instead of trimming sheets at a time and smoothing out bubbles. $220 sounds good, even if it lasts for 3 years like they advertise on DYC, that's $6 a month/20 cents a day haha. I'm also digging the anthracite.

Not the whole truck, but did the hood last week, wheels quite a while ago.

I wish the dry time was a little longer, it's tough to work fast enough to get it down and the tape peeled so you get a clean edge. I had to do pinstripes over again, lost a chunk the first time. 4 or 5 coats with rattle can.

I live with dirt roads, stuff gets dusty about 2 seconds after you clean it.

I only had one area that I needed to peel tape straight off the paint from and if it started to pull I just spritzed the tape with fresh paint and continued to peel. Worked perfectly.

You should try using that Turtle Wax ice spray wax everyone talks about. I used it today before the rain and it made the surface much smoother and less tacky. Not sure if it'll last but I plan on trying a good synthetic wax on it soon. The spray wax seems to be helping with the dust repelling a little bit.

How's this holding up? Looks good. Do you even have to wash the truck now, other then just hosing it off and drying the windows? Sense water repels of the synthetic paint I assume no dry water marks?

The area where I went around the fender flare weather stripping started to peel up (the knife pulled it up some then rain water kept attacking underneath it). Thankfully the easy solution for plastidip that's pulling up is just hitting it with some paint thinner. It laid back down. I pulled the flares off before doing that and will probably dip them black, and I need to respray around the area where I used paint thinner on the body just to clean up the texture from me smearing thinner on it. Then I'll reinstall the flares. Also the dip is starting to come up underneath the door handles ever so slightly but I will also make that lay back down with thinner before it gets any worse.

As far as washing it, mud and stuff is a bitch to get off. You pretty much have to use degreaser (simple green) cause regular car wash soap won't cut through the dirt enough. Thankfully I can be a bit lazier about washing it since well, it's a coating. It's not like clear coat where I need to worry about stuff baking into it and etching it. I've actually had decent results just spraying degreaser onto it dry and wiping off with a microfiber towel. I usually do that last after the initial wash then I hit it with that Ice spray wax. I plan on trying Zaino on it soon, after I graduate and don't have masters degree classes taking up all my damn time.

The plastidip seems to be holding up great. The only place I am currently having an issue is where someone got out of the bed of my truck and put her foot on the bumper where the little hole is for the hitch ball. Needless to say, a shoe rubbing on plastidip isn't good for it. It came up in a couple of small hole sized areas about 1/10" in diameter. Luckily all I have to do is hit it with thinner and touch it up with a brush. I have some paint left over from my gallons that I have in a jar. For the flare touch up I'm gonna use a spray can and pray to God that it matches.

Sorry that was long winded but graduate school does that kind of crap to you. Needless to say, plastidip requires a bit of initial "maintenance" and periodic touching up but it's easy enough to do and takes very little time.

This was before I pulled the flares.

This is after (you can kinda see why I want to dip the flares black):

dipyourcar.com peeled all the paint off of a fully dipped car and weighed it. It was less than 2 pounds added to the total weight
