Title says it all, the time has come to get tires for my 16's. I currently have the KO's on my 15" wheels, and am happy with it. I'm wondering if there is any improvement to the KO2 compared to the KO, and if the toyo's are worth the extra money? I do about 80/20 on road/off road. To me, the toyo seems like a mall crawler tire, has the looks, but no guts off the pavement. My BFG's I currently have are good in everything expect rain. Also, are the Goodyear duratracs a reasonable choice for daily driving/occasional off roading?

Not sure where you got the information to state this, but 100% not true based on my experience. Sure they are not a MT, but they have done everything I've asked them to do off-road.

I have no direct experience with the Toyos but they come in both P and LT rated tires which would seem to make a big difference in how durable they are off road. Or more accurately, that usually makes a big difference but who knows for this specific case. So maybe the P are "mall crawlers" while the LT are bonafide off road tires.

One advantage of the Toyos is that for some sizes they weigh a fair bit less than the KO and KO2 which can be nice for our relatively underpowered trucks. However, looking at floatation sizes for a 15" rim it doesn't seem the weight difference is very significant so that might not apply to your application.

I've not been on wet or icy pavement with the KO2s yet, but I ran KOs for 15 years on another truck and indeed they sort of sucked on wet pavement. Other people who have driven the KO2s on wet roads, snow and ice have stated that they seem to have much improved traction compared to the KOs in those situations. Again, no direct experience myself but more than one person has posted that.

To me it seems like the Toyo is a perfectly good tire, but if you are already happy with the KO is seems like you'd be even happier with the KO2 as so far everyone I've seen review the KO2 that has run KO before that is quite happy with the KO2 and thinks it is improved. Of course no one has had the KO2 long enough to evaluate tread wear, but BFG claims that is improved as well.

I've ran Toyo Open Country A/T in the past. Shitty wear pattern, especially on gravel and with the P rated version. I'd avoid the Toyo personally.

Might I recommend you look at the Cooper ST Maxx as well? Heavier tire but it holds up a lot better.

I also will be buying tires in the next couple days and am stuck between the KO2's and the duratracs...been leaning towards the KO2's but still hanging onto the possibility of the duratracs..

Had KO's on my Cherokee and they were great tire for everything I through at them, snow, rain, light mud, trails, daily driving. When with Procomp Extreme A/T and were awful at everything and wore even worse. Whet with Duatracs a little over a year ago and have been very happy with them. Was going to go back to KO's but honesty liked the look of the Duratraccs better. If the KO2 was out when I bought them it would have been a tougher decision.

Well I pulled the trigger on some KO2's today and I'm happy I did. Fantastic looking tire. Will report back after I install new suspension and get truck aligned.

What size did you get? and how much did you end up paying for the new KO2's?

265/75/16, it was $930 out the door from discount with hazard warranty on all 4 tires. That was with having discount price match 4 wheel parts.

So far, they're fairly quiet on the highway, handle much better than the ko's on wet roads, but haven't gotten them in the mud/dirt unfortunately but I know that's where they'll shine most.

The reports are really good for those tires, so I expect you'll like em for everything

226 a piece is ridiculous. BFG's are decent but they wear faster and if your saving $75 per tire for a tire with a 60k warranty seems like a no brainier.

Too late for OP, but ...
I had a set of Toyo LT 265/70/17's.
Great tires - lots of off road work in Baja. Definitely not "mall crawlers"! Never got stuck, no flats, no problems.
Quieter and better in rain than BFG ATs, longer mileage.
Have a set of BFG Rugged Terrain now. Quiet, originally OK in rain, now not so good at 30,000 miles. 2 flats/1 sidewall cut in Baja. Will need to replace soon.
Debating going to AT KO2s or back to Toyo AT2s.

Had some Bfg's on my Tundra and they were terrible in the rain and they also didn't wear good. On the 12 Tacoma I had I ran the Toyo at II's and Cooper at3's and was extremely happy with both. You might also want to look at the toyo rt's which are fairly new and a lil more aggressive than the at II's plus a 45k warranty.
