This seems super sketch, a hard bump could jar loose the velcro and then the loose swaybar is going to cause serious problems.

just remove it all together. You will cause issues with this, flopping around end links and a sway bar that could possibly flop down and chew CV joints for lunch.

That is going to be noisy and obnoxious when connected. The end link studs are threaded full length and need to be tightening down to stay snug. If the stud was shouldered and tight fitting in the mounts it could be less horrible. But it's has just enough play to be really annoying and the threads will eat away at the mountings, or the other way around. The little amount of play will increase until they move enough to get some momentum and shear, and the sway bar ends up tangled in the tie rod. It will become a safety hazard.

If your confident that the sway bar is clear of every moving part and full steering lock, full compression etc, it's probably fine to leave it disconnected. But use nuts and just take an extra minute to remove/install the end links properly. IMO

I've used much tighter fitting sway bar disconnects with pins and have never been happy with them. They always get loose and noisy. The ONLY quick disconnect I was happy with was only my rubicon, and only after I replaced the electric motor with a manual knob. The end links stayed connected and the sway bar had a splined disconnect in the middle.

    Not hate, just realistic feedback.

I agree that it's a bad idea. Who cares if you remove your sway bar. Should've taken your mom for a ride and asked if she thought the sway bar was on or not. Absolutely no reason to have a sway bar on these trucks unless you are unable to drive a vehicle safely.

And when it does it not only becomes a hazard to you and your truck but to others on the road as well. Have you considered safety and liability? I personally would own every asset in your name if I were victim of your negligence. But that's just me

Just remove it completely. This is just asking for trouble. I removed mine the first week I had the truck.

Velcro, Really? How would your mom know if the sway bar is on? Does she get on her hands and knees to check?

How old are you, and how is a shotgun going to stop him from suing you?

    Wow, just wow....

Sarge, I failed to mention that I appreciate your ingenuity here but sway bar disconnecting has been tried before. It's truly a bad idea on a Tacoma. Search around. There are some pictures of attempts and pictures of damage from lose end links getting caught up in front end components. Torn CV boots etc.

last time vehicle was aligned? worn out suspension? condition of tires, etc? there are many factors that probably have more to do with your instability

The portion of the sway bar aft of the tie rod will dig into the CV boot at full suspension flex. This has been demonstrated before (i.e. a TW member progressively flexing the suspension and photographing the area). The proper way to do a sway bar disconnect is to cut the sway bar just forward of the steering tie rod and weld a tongue-and-groove joint to it, like this:

    swaybardiscobaby006_e2bb7ca28594e838f90c57e76bd0ec6855d95a95.jpg

The silver portion is removed from the vehicle when you disconnect the sway bar. Pretty inexpensive to do if you have the welding skills. Most fabricators would not be willing to take on the liability (i.e. if the weld fails while you are cornering, it could cause the truck to roll over). Unlike other parts such as bumpers and skid plates, a sway bar cannot be reasonably declared as "for off-road use only".

Well now that you're moving out, i suggest you just keep the sway bar off and get an alignment. "all over the road" meaning wandering? is an alignment issue, not a sway bar issue.

If you are having issues with it removed, either your driving skills are not up to par or there are other problems with your vehicle. I've had my sway bar off for 4 years. even with 3 inches of lift and 35" tires my truck corners just as hard as I would ever care for it to. If I want a sports car Ill buy one. I want a truck, so thats what I own.

This right here. I have had my swaybar off for some time, on stock coils @1.75 setting on 5100's and its fine, doesnt wander, and corners well.

I keep my sway bar on until I go wheeling. Doesn't take very long to remove it. I do like it in the streets but I tend to corner rather fast. I'm used to driving lowered cars with stiff suspensions.

It's essentially the same setup as what JKS does with their disconnects so I don't see the safety issues. However, on these trucks the sway bar doesn't seem to make much difference. Been running without mine for about 15K miles and didn't notice a difference
