Prerunner 2wd 2.7 SR5

My 2015 prerunner Tacoma with 16" steel wheels has developed a slight vibration at highway speeds so I am going to check balance as we have balancer where I work. My question is do I need the adapter I keep hearing about or is the adapter only used for the aluminum wheels. Thx
