Port of Vancouver can handle the ship volume itself , the issues are around safely moving the ships in and out of the harbour and the mooring of ships waiting to move into the harbour

OZ do they have a deep water berth for handling, at least, Panamax bulk oil tankers? I'm not seeing one listed and those births aren't an overnight construction project. That's what I'm getting at.

I'm still curious to see all of there numbers. Last night, if I remember her speech, she also mentioned a 2% tax raise accross the board. I know she had mentioned that tax increase level for corporate taxes earlier, but I'm wondering if that means personal taxes are going up by 2% as well? Or will she tier the tax system and raise some people by 4% and others by nothing. I have a funny feeling it would be the latter option.

That's the downtown port , the petroleum products are at the Burrard terminal

"tankers proposed to serve the Kinder Morgan pipeline are approximately 245m long. This is longer than Vancouver’s tallest building (the Shangri La) at 200m, and almost 100m longer than a BC Spirit of Vancouver Island ferry at 167m."

That last article doesn't sound like that Vancouver pipeline is very likely to pass either.

Anyways I'll stop spewing out negativity about the NDP for a while. Let's see what they do with their first official budget and what the economy does in the year following that budget. That's really the only way to truly know what will happen and which industries will benefit from the NDP.

Except we will have an NDP government for 5ish years. They won't be silly enough to call an election before they have too. Their support can't get much higher than 40% after all.

Sure it can , if the gloom and doomers like yourself see no further job losses , and the price of oil bounces back affording more cash for the Province to right the ship on their watch

Even so it's extremely difficult in a modern multi party democracy to achieve a true majority vote. Look at the last 30 years of history. When was the last time over 50% of people voted for a party in any Canadian election? How often does it happen? I'm guessing right next to never.

I've been thinking more about it at work today and I'm going to try and give this government a fair shot. I have my reservations but it would be foolish to let my own preconceived notions of the Alberta NDP get me too excited.

You don't need 50% to get a majority in our system , that's not how it works , that's not how any of this works

I never said that they need 50%. I've simply said getting and keeping 40% of the vote is difficult in Canada. Getting any higher is improbable.

I know how first past the post works thanks lol. That's why I said a true majority of the vote because that rarely happens even when a party wins a majority of the seats.
