What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Is there a thread on doing this? I've got Baja fenders and just noticed my tire throws pretty much everything from the road right up to that intake tube..

 

Cool. I was just wondering what that intake tube looked like under the fender.

I almost said something when you posted the pic of the lights but I just figured you had decided to rotate to tent to open onto the passenger side.

 

I've never heard of those. Who sells them? Do you have a link you can share?

The only advertise them to fit 3rd gen 4Runners, which of course have the same LCA. So far I've been pleased with them. They pressed in easy, and seem to be working good.

 

I know what he said lol I think he meant fill plug seeing as the drain plug is on the bottom of the housing and has nothing to do with this application because the fill plug is what that cut out is for.

 

Ripped an inner cv boot and can see other side is dried and cracked up. Ordered both boots and an inner tie rod. Also booked to get my dieing alternator rebuilt with a 160amp core! Can finally run my aux lights and sound system at the same time.

 

Don't forget to get an improved wiring harness to support the new alt and increased draw. Think big 3 mod on steroids

 

Won't see a huge improvement on the alt. it won't output any different at idling speeds. Needs to be at higher rpms to get to full output. That's the down side to HO alternators.

And yes. I agree, your going to have to redo all you wiring.

 

All wiring has been upgraded already. Alt used to charge at 14.4-.6 at idle now its more around 13.8. And when I turn on 6 55w hids at idle voltage drops to the 12s... ouch. I was surprised to find out its only gona cost $150 to do the job so I jumped on it.

I find this hard to believe. If an alternator is wound with a higher wire density then the output should be higher at a given RPM. Maybe I don't understand how the current is being regulated. At any rate, I think the various manufacturers list the HO alternators with a higher than OEM output at idle.

Not true.

Pulley size with be the biggest factor here and alternator speed. If your using a stock pulley on a stock alternator. You'll see minimal increase of idle amps. You will see a higher output though when you go faster(engine rpms) because of the increased coil count. But you'll be lucky to see a 10 amp increase at idle as it won't be spinning faster then stock.

I know it seems like it should because of the increase of wire wound in it. But it won't be spinning fast enough to utilize it if that makes sense..
