The item shown on post #75 does appear nice, but it is vaporware. The item is not available for purchase on the seller's website, and has not even considered offering a price in 2 months. Who knows when it might actually be manufactured and available.

arsenj0365's doors are available right now, and can be waterproofed if the holes in the cubbie are sealed. And, a lot cheaper than the Tuffy or that vaporware box.

    vaporware????
It will be available. It is just going to take a little longer than I had anticipated.
I have started the process to get a design patent, and I am also trying to get some retailers /Toyota dealers interested in commiting to purchase some of these, as it is going to take about a $20k investment on my part to get these down to about $220 per box (stainless steel and manufacturing these is not cheap).
Trust me, I wish they were done a long time ago; just finding a shop that wants to make these has been tough... apparently these are not as easy to manufacture as I thought.

I really need to apologize to TacomaTruckParts / Jesse.

Not being personally involved in metal working or designing, I have no actual idea of what is involved in bringing a product such as this to market. And my impatience can show because of this.

Post #75 does show a superior product:

    * A door design that can be ordered separately that still covers the existing storage box and mounting screws
    * 2 locks (instead of 1 on the Tuffy Box)
    * Stainless Steel storage container that would not rust
    * 66% more storage than the Tuffy Box
    * Modular design
    * More offered storage for those with the power outlet

Jesse, I hope you are successful in bringing this product to market. Thank you for offering an improved option than what is currently available.

    tomwil,
No apologies needed. It has been a long time since I posted those pics on here....
I have also learned quite a bit in trying to get this product to market..... Doing things the right / best way is not always the cheapest or fastest way of doing things.

I needed to be called out like that......

Jesse, do you have an ETA for your product? Yours definitely looks superior to the Tuffy and i can wait...a little bit :)

Finally found a real use for my Tuffy Box. I have my bottle jack in there. Having a car seat in the back and a baby on the way, my back seats will be full. And if I get a flat tire I don't want to take one of my children out of the back seat to have access to the bottle jack under the seat. Yes I also have a tool box but I keep it unlocked. I carry straps, batteries, flashlight and a small tool set in my tool box.

Sorry to revive a dead thread, just wanted to give a heads up to someone who buys these. I grabbed two of these at $180x2. I love the look and storage. I have never had a leak, but they look like they rust out from the bottom. Its a good idea to pull them out and remove the rust and repaint if you don't want your stuff falling out from the bottom....

Maybe they rust in Boston, but I've been under my truck and so far, so good. I did think about hitting it with some undercoating.

I know this is an old thread. But has anyone make one that's plastic or stainless? This would really come in handy on the new Taco.

Just came across this thread. Did the sideways power plug box ever come to market? (And I hope/imagine it’ll work on a 3rd gen)

Looks like undercoating would be a wise move for anyone who lives where they use deicer or salt on the roads !!!
