Just throwing this back to the front before I make some moves this weekend. I'm considering plastidip first, but I may just pull them and go ahead and spray with bed liner.

 

Just something to think about, I've read that the fasteners break easy so you may want to have some on hand when you reinstall the flares. And be careful with the rubber gasket that's between the fender & flare.

 

Oh yeah, the fasteners snap like icicles. I need to pick up a packet of them. Have a cheap source?

 

I m not sure how many per flare but I do know they use orange & blue, not sure what the difference is.

They break sooooo easy. When I took mine off my truck just to trim them for my hi rear bumper it was impossible to be careful enough to prevent not only some of the actual clips breaking but also the clip holders. I was taking my time and going super slow too.

 

What was your clip situation in regards to the reinstall? Did you just order the generic "tacoma fender flare clips" off ebay?

 

Appreciate that, saw it and messaged him. It is only 1/2 the exhaust and he lives to far to ship. I was looking for something local.

 

for what it's worth I installed an Aero turbine 2525XL muffler on my truck (from what I have been told it sounds very similar to the TRD exhaust)

well when the parts that hold the clips break there really is nothing you can do but try and epoxy them back on and hope it works out. In my case it didn't workout and I have at least 3-4 broken clip holders on each of my rear fenders. I ended up just getting black silicon and a caulking gun and running a bead on it and sticking them on that way . for the clip holders that didn't break, yes I used some of the clips off ebay. (not sure which ones because a buddy already had them and I used his)

 

I appreciate that, how loud do you feel it is? I won't lie I only want the TRD exhaust for a little better sound. Always liked the way the TRD exhaust sounded.

I seriously think it is impossible to not break clip holders. I even thought about just getting the bolt on looking fenders at one point cause even with the silicon it still is not perfect. Such a PITA

 

What if you cut the clips or possibly squeeze them from the back side of the fenders/besides? That way when you pull on the flare there's less of a chance of the flare breaking.

 

I tried the squeezing, they still sometimes break. Maybe just cutting them all might work if you had a box of backups. However I really can't even remember how much they stuck though the back to get to.
