Just discovered these. I'm considering a couple different options for filters, as well as a custom cai I wanna build. These R2C filters seem to be the best of the best. Been looking at all kinds of different filters and custom cai ideas. At the moment I have a volant cai with a powercore Donaldson g2 filter. I've been reading up on these too and although they are really great, some people think they aren't. I have no way of telling except to do some testing. I had another thread regarding cfm rates and testing maf readings but no responses so I guess I'll be doing some testing for myself and see what I come up with.

So.. just wondering if anyone's used these or what the word is. I see they make regular conical filters of this type. I'm considering getting one just to test on my cai and see if there's a difference in performance. Word is on the powercore filters, or the intake itself, seems to be a little restrictive. Not sure but I'd like to test. In the future I'd like to build a custom cai using 3.5" tubing and the R2C off road canister. I'd be getting the maf tube adapter as well as a few bends to complete it from the canister to throttle body..

Also, I know some of you will debate the cost on these. The conical filters for cai applications isn't bad at all. The powercore filters are more! And these have a higher, if not THE highest, filtration ratings, which is 99.97%. But I would really like to get the canister. It's $314 just for that. It does include the filter but I'd still have to get the extra tubing and adapters.. so I'd assume around $500 at most for the complete system. Seems a little outrageous at first. But if you think about it, imo it'd be worth it. Plus it kinda pays itself off in the long run since the filter won't need to be replaced as it's reusable and also washable. Unless of course it's used in extreme conditions.

Anyways.. here's some links to the different products for some reading material if anyone's interested. Let me know your thoughts on the practical aspects of doing this. If I'm going to be doing anything I'd rather do it right. Seems like these filters are top notch and I want something to last. As well as give me a performance upgrade. Obviously there's not gonna be a huge increase. But I'm expecting it would open her up a bit more.

UMP metal canister with R2C filter:
(If you browse their selection under Engine/Air filters, you'll see all the different canisters they make for different applications. A little more pricy but it's a metal canister and will last forever. Not sure on the quality of the plastic one from R2C but I'd imagine it'd last a lifetime as well except maybe with a front end wreck...)

Here's the 4" UMP canister on Amazon cheaper. But with the regular disposable super air filter. Considering this as well as its cheaper and just to see if it works. Unsure if the R2C filters are compatible, for when replacement filter is needed instead of getting another disposable.

Edit: Oh and here's the regular conical air filters to be used on cai kits. Not too shabby on price for these too. Amazon's even got them for like $77.

So let me know what your thoughts are and if anyone's had any experiences with these.

Canisters work. Usually only see them on race trucks or higher dollar builds. If I ever have the spare change for one I'll find a way to work it into the engine bay.

The toro diesel lawn mower at the airport I worked at in highschool had a setup like that. It seems like if you look around used earth moving or industrial equipment you may be able to find something that will work for alot cheaper. I'll stick with my stock airbox and cheap paper filters.

Hmm.. yeah I'm still debating on whether or not it'd be worth it. Just something I'm thinking about in the event I get the spare change myself. I like the $275 UMP canister. If I was to get one that'd be it. I saw another forum where a guy put one on his V8 Tacoma. Was pretty sick. His was an airaid canister. Those are even more in cost. And he had to do some pretty serious mods to get it to fit. But I think those are bigger than UMP canisters. I think it would fit though.. Another option was to use a straight through powercore filter and make my own canister/cylindrical shield to house the filter just for extra protection from water splashes. I get some serious flooding out here where I live sometimes especially during monsoons. Our whole dirt road is basically a creek that isn't maintained. When it floods it goes all the way down. Pretty crazy. Plus not to mention all the dust we get. Considered a snorkel too but don't think I'll be doing that. I'll be adding up all the necessary parts and pieces and get a final cost on this setup. Then go from there. Probly order the UMP canister by itself first and see if I can fit it in. If it looks like it ain't gonna fit easily I'll just return it and go a different route.

Bigger doesn't actually equal better in this case. If you go too big, when the air and dust hits the canister it is going too slow to effectively separate the dust from the air.

I see a air filter set up something like that on diesel welders .

Pretty much any diesel equipment engines.

I like my stock set up might not be the best but filters can be had almost any place.

Here in Pa when there is lots of moisture in the air I have had the cone filters freeze up not fun when the snow is a foot deep.

So I stay away from them.
