Full Disclosure: I am looking at buying another truck as a daily driver for a handful of months which would give me an opportunity to both sell my current modified truck (which will definitely take some time), gather funds, and search for a new vehicle. I have come across one for sale from a person that I know and am looking for some input. I want to know what you guys think that it is worth both selling private party as well as what a dealer might offer for it down the road... I am largely concerned about mileage and have no idea about how valuation of hail damage goes. I won't divulge yet what I think it is worth nor what he is asking for it. After some responses I may.

    Quick specs:
    • 2011 Ford F150
    • SuperCab (aka extended cab)
    • 192k on the ODO
    • XL Trim
    • 4x4
    • 3.7L V6 engine
    • Light (in my opinion) hail damage
    • A/C
    • AM/FM radio no CD player
    • Rust on both body as well as frame which I am not a fan of, but such is life up here in the north (thank you Minnesota)
    • Pretty new tires (sub 10k on them)
    • Vinyl floors
    • Interior is no shit a 9/10. Very clean and does not feel like it has seen as much road time as it has.
    • Little dent in the top of the tailgate from something heavy coming down on a closed gate I imagine

The truck has been serviced pretty meticulously and all records are kept in a book in the glove box. What it is due for currently per the book is an oil change and some new spark plugs. A couple things I noticed were that it might need some new brake pads(brake feel was good, but looking at calipers) and maybe a new serpentine belt. ALL fluids replaced 10k ago. That being said I am hoping that it requires little maintenance over the next 10k or better. I would say that at minimum 90% of the miles are highway miles (driven by a 60 yr old man as a work vehicle) and I took it for a 20 minute drive and everything is surprisingly tight. Only one little weird rattle in the dash that I am sure I could encourage out of there. Alrighty boys (and girls) let's see what you all say.

I would put it in the 4k - 5k range. The hail damage isnt to major it doesnt look, but it will still be costly to fix and the rust as well, if you keep it for another year or two (which could be possible) that rust could go all the way through, which means a little more to pay out. Not a bad looking truck though.

    nothing cool
With that mileage I'd say 4-5k. Trucks hold their value and someone is always looking for a run around truck. It looks pretty basic even with crank windows which is actually a god thing. Less stuff to worry about. My guess is your friend wants $6,500ish? If you get it for more around 4,500-5,000 at least you can fix any little problem that happens in the next months.

Keep the responses coming! Anything in particular I should be looking out for at this mileage?

I'm no fan of rust, an I'd be less worried about the mileage if it was a Toyota. If your looking to turn it for what you bought it for, shoot as low as you can. It will have over 200K on it when you want rid of it. For some that's a line in the sand.

For everyone's info the guy is looking for $4500 for the truck. I was thinking of offering $4000. In my mind at the very least I can get $4000 for it 3-6 mos down the road as it appears to be a functionally sound vehicle and relatively new. The only thing honestly keeping me dragging my feet is that I will be using this as my primary/only transportation for that time period and I don't want it to leave me on the side of the road. I just don't want the money I have been squirelling away for a new truck to get sunk into keeping this one road worthy. Decisions decisions...

the truck doesnt look too bad...
were on our 2nd 3.7 f150 (work truck) ran the last one till about 180k no problems just regular maintanance and now on my new one (2013) im at almost 30k.
great little engine, get about 21 mpg all day long...
since youre just using it to hold you off till you get rid and get new cars for a 4k offer i think its fair.

Hookers. Blow. Etc. I have land that I have to deal with so from time to time the tractor might be in the back of the truck, need to buy mulch, brick, etc. It's not an everyday occurrence sure, but I am not one to rely on someone else for a truck. I am not interested in being totally without a truck. I did that for a couple years and was not a fan.

With the rust.... i would offer in the ballpark of 3800 or 4000. As long as the motor was serviced regular and there are not signs on any serious leaks.....I wouldn't worry too much about the mileage but dang all of the rust for a truck being just 4 years old.

What did KBB say? Not a huge fan since they are undervalued a lot, but always worth looking into. Do you know if it's had the scheduled maintenance per the manufacture recommendations? If it has 180k miles and has then the 4-5k range is fair. The 4x4 aspect is what's keeping the value on the truck, if that's not a big deal right now, look for a 2 wheel drive it will be 1500 to 2k less. Only things that cautions me buying used is you are buying someone else's problems, no car is ever what they say it is, and I have bought my fare share of used vehicles. So it's up to you, see if they will let you test drive the truck and find a mechanic that will look at it for you, used to do that all the time before I bought used, like checking for leaks in the oil pan and such and getting a good look at the engine. Hope that helps, and good luck with the truck!!

Rust scares me, but i'm from CA, so we don't know what that is. For 4k, you can't really go wrong. I've had fords well into the 200k range. Mine were both 5.8's aka 351W's, but with regular maintenance, they will run forever. Most engines will run over 200k without complaint with diligent maintenance.

Toyota's tend to be used as toy trucks, so the mileage on them tends to be light, which is why you see so many with high miles doing just fine. If this truck was as well maintained as it appears, i would not hesitate to take it up and over 200k in the slightest.

Get a buyers check and have them test the frame to see if it is straight. Well worth the money if you are serious about the truck. Never forego complete checks, even if they drop the price. In a year, you will forget what you paid, but never forget bouncing down the road 'cause no one can straighten your frame.
