Just discovered a coolant leak under the intake:(
Coming from the back plate where the bypass tube comes from in behind y pipe.. So I'll be taking the top end off and fixing that, once I delve in and figure out where it's coming from.. Just wondering what else I should do while I'm in there. Never done this before so I'm sure it's gonna be an interesting job..

    So far I'm thinking:
    (Obviously) intake gaskets
    Valve cover gaskets
    Maybe getting injectors cleaned/replaced?
    Knock sensors/connectors?
Freeze plugs? (Not sure if this is doable/necessary)
Cleaning out entire intake and throttle body

    Anything else??
I'm sure there's more.. Again I am new to tearing a motor down even if just the intake and want to know if there's anything else I should consider looking at. I'm sure it's not a fun job getting in there to begin with so I'd like to do as much as possible while I'm at it. Thanks:)

Getting the intake off the 3.4 is pretty easy as it's 2 pcs so don't worry about that.

The only other thing I can recommend is replacing all of the vacuum lines while you have everything torn down that far.

Also take the time to clean all of the gunk out of the intake. Mine was caked with an oily carbon mess that had two of the runners restricted by about 25% right at the bend. Interestingly the truck ran fine but did seem slower than I remembered. I simply filled and old plastic tub with super clean and threw the intake pieces in and let it soak over night then hit it with a pressure washer. Good as new.

Looking at it after everything was clean I noticed my intake ports were also seriously mismatched so I took a little time to port match them and get some of the casting rough spots out of the ports. Doubt it did anything but I can't leave that kinda stuff alone :)

Sounds good. I certainly plan to do some major cleaning.. I'll look into new vacuum lines. Any suggestions on what to get? I know they make universal stuff at hardware stores, but I'm not sure if I wanna do that? Or dealer items, which I'm sure would cost a ton. Or maybe even some colored hoses such as blue, but I think those aren't cheap either. At least the ones I found a while back while browsing, think they were silicone...

I was looking at this gasket kit too which I found in another thread:
    http://pages.ebay.com/motors/link/?nav=item.view&id=111553378788&alt=web

Also wondering if I should do something with the injectors. Should I attempt taking them somewhere to be cleaned? Or just buy new ones? What brand if so? I suspect other performance issues so I figured I'd break down and do as much as possible and not have to worry about it again.

Edit:found these injectors on eBay for $186 set of 6 aisin? Sounds like a good deal!
    http://pages.ebay.com/motors/link/?nav=item.view&id=301497414570&alt=web

Also maybe the fuel pressure regulator. Suggested brand for this too?
    Edit:Found this one $86:
Beck Arnley 158-0948 Fuel Pressure Regulator https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005BNXN4Q/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_wTYvvb0GMYEG0

If it costs me an arm and a leg, oh well. At least it'll be done and tip top shape. Already did the timing belt and water pump kit. New exhaust.. only other thing I would be doing is new sensors perhaps. But not sure I'm even in need of them. Like maf, O2's, maybe tps and iac. But I have no reason to believe they are in need of replacing. Maybe the iac. I've cleaned it once. Suppose I could wait on that until I dismantle and see how she looks. Give her a good cleaning again..

Let me know!! I'm very anxious to get this done and want to be sure I'm prepared and ready to tackle anything and everything. I can probly drop a good chunk of $ down her throat but don't want to buy anything unless it's worthwhile or preventative. Thanks.

As soon as I get my commuter car back up and driving i plan to do a major clean up too. If i we're you, id soak my intake like the last guy suggested. Ive read soaking your fuel injectors in seafoam works wonders. Don't bother with freeze plugs. Kinda a waste of time, if they dont look rusted out. Id also do vacuum lines cause that's relatively cheap. Just go with autozone or whatever.

Alrighty well it sounds like I'm on the right track.. Here's a 2 page thread on ttora regarding my main issue, the internal coolant leak, if anyone's interested. Looks fun.. hoping it's an easy fix. So, should I get new knock sensors too? I know I'll need new connectors as apparently they just shatter when touched.

And again, let me know about those injectors I listed. That's not a bad price I think and would rather just buy new ones. Rock auto doesn't seem to list either aisin or denso. What's oem?

Few more part checks if anyone could give me some shopping support:)
Regarding the knock sensors; found these:

    connectors: http://www.ebay.com/itm/GENUINE-TOYOTA-KNOCK-SENSOR-HARNESS-4Runner-1995-2002-T100-1992-1998-/331220882056?fits=Model:Tacoma|Engine+-+Liter_Display:3.4L&hash=item4d1e4d9288&vxp=mtr

    sensors:
    DENSO ($93 each!?): http://www.ebay.com/itm/OE-DENSO-TOYOTA-LEXUS-KNOCK-SENSOR-89615-12040-GENUINE-TOYOTA-DENSO-Part-/370732013418?fits=Model:Tacoma|Engine+-+Liter_Display:3.4L&hash=item565159976a&vxp=mtr

    ISUMO
    brand(?): ($22) http://www.ebay.com/itm/2-Pcs-of-KNOCK-SENSOR-Fits-LEXUS-TOYOTO-GEO-/171283529480?fits=Model:Tacoma|Engine+-+Liter_Display:3.4L&hash=item27e14b3f08&vxp=mtr

The connector harnesses seem to be legit. Not sure on the knock sensors though. Certainly dont wanna pay almost $200 for two damn sensors... Would it hurt to get those off brand ones?? And if anyone's got any input still on the above posts (post#3) like the pressure regulator/injectors, I'd greatly appreciate it before I start ordering everything up:)
