    Hey everyone.
I just bought an 02 tacoma prerunner TRD with rear locks. I'm new to a truck and was wondering how do I use and set the rear lock. I tried putting it on park, neutral and low then pressing the "rear lock" button. I hear it doing something but the light flashes. Am I doing it wrong? Or is my rear lock messed up? Any tips/advice/thoughts would be greatly appreciated. I would hate to not know how to use it if it comes down to a time where it might help me.
    Thanks everyone

It can be harmful to use it on pavement, although since it only blinked the locker was never engaged. Keep that in mind, if the locker hasn't been used in a long while it can seize and have some issues.
To engage press it and turn the wheel left or right and slowly creep, you'll hear a noise and the solid light should stay on. This is normal and the more you engage it the easier it'll react to engage.

You said it was a prerunner correct?
If that's the case then your truck is 2wd. You may be mistaking the transmission gears for a 4wd transfer case.

But the locker can be used in any gear in 2wd.

^^4lo in drive. The diff lock sometimes needs alittle movement to get the splines lined up thats why it flashes. Try trying again but move just alittle till it locks.

Yes, it's a prerunner 2wd, I tried it under N, D, 2, and L. So with what you said, I put it on drive, press the rear lock button, turn the wheel left or right and creep a bit and it should set?
    Thanks

You got it. It's said to use it once a month or so to keep it going for ease of use.

Great! And thanks for the help! Haha I didn't move much because I didn't want to break anything. Had it under drive, pressed the button, moved a bit and the light stopped blinking(assuming it set). Again I really appreciate the help!!! Good day to you all

Glad I could help! Just remember when the locker is set to keep it at low speeds!
