Hey guys, kind of a dumb question here. My 06 came with a set of Dick Cepeck wheels and tires, while detailing it the other day I noticed that all 4 wheels have what look to be locking nuts all around (yes all of them) and guess what, truck did not come with a key or anything. I spoke to the dealership where I got it from and they did not have anything for the truck. Is there a tool/tools that I can use to get them out myself and replace them with new normal ones or should I even to try to get the dealership to take care of it (they seem not too willing to help). Any ideas?

Without the "key" or key code (if you know the mfr of the locking lug nuts), they can be a real challenge to remove, as they are hardened steel. Should be the responsibility of the dealership to remove for you.

^ This. My locking nut key was in the glove box at sale. I ended up having the shop put back on the non locking nuts. Out where I live no one is going to waste time stealing rims.

Do they look like this? If so, buy this... I've found that this is a very common "wheel lock" on aftermarket wheels... If not, any decent tire shop should be able to remove the ones you have and sell you a new set with a key.

Thanks guys, this doesn't look promising. Dealership has basically ignored my calls (not a Toyota dealership) just a small town one. I thought who in their right mind would put replace all regular nuts with all locking nuts at all 4 wheels but I guess there are people out there that would worry that much about a set of wheels......

Nope, they do not look anything like that Styx586 but thank you for the help. I'll try to take a picture when I get off from work and post it later on. I still remember the dealership's add in autotrader about having just installed new tires and then when I called them to inquire about the key they were like, no it came to us like that.....

Well, researching other threads I found a tool recommended to someone else. Bought it online and will give it a shot. Will update later on to report how good/bad it went.

i had a issue awhile back where i misplaced my key (left it on the wheel) so i had to get my locks removed.
Craftsman has a tool that worked great had all my locks off in less than 5 min! i recommend it.

This is what I'm dealing with, got pics of the locks themselves and a wheel. As you can see, I have 6 on each wheel...0511152011d.jpg 0511152011c.jpg

those locks look like the standard ones that like autozone sell and Discount/Americas tire sell they should have one that will fit that

or you buy cheap sockets that are big enough to fit over them but small enough to be somewhat tight where you have to hammer them on then take them off that way

I had the same looking lug nuts. Went to pep boys they have a couple different sizes, ask to see if it fits. I paid 8$, not a big day al.

Thanks for the input guys. I already got the craftsman tool kit mentioned earlier (19.00 bucks) so I know what I'll be doing Saturday, that and buying new lug nuts and a lock set...

Those are just conventional spline-drive lugnuts, popular for aftermarket wheels because the socket can be smaller, less chance of scuffing up the lug hole.

What you have are referred to as splined lug nuts,,, most after market rims don't provide a large enough hole for regular lug nuts, that's why they use these.
Don't go trashing your nuts, just get the right socket for them, better yet get 2 cause the side wall on the sockets is very thin, they like to split at the most inopertune of times.

P.S. I have those same nuts on my truck and they work just fine.

Ok KenLyns & sparkystaco, another stupid question from me, where can I get the right socket for those splined lug nuts?
