Now that we all know what the 2016 looks like, who will buy one? At first sight of the truck, I hated it! Buuuut after watching many youtube videos and one where it's actually driving around in the desert, it's actually growing on me and I believe I'm starting to like it a lot. Funny thing is, I remember when the 2nd Gens first came out, I couldn't stand the look and now prefer the look of those over the 1st Gens. OK end of my rant, who will buy?????

I'm going to wait until my lease ends to decide to just buy my truck or get a new one. Also, by the time my lease is up....all the kinks should be worked out by then. The new style is starting to grow on me.

Love: the interior and its new features (sunroof, crawl control, electronic cluster, dual climate, etc.), better mpg, tailgate, tires look better than current stock tires

Hate: that hideous front end (stupid underbite, huge random ugly chrome grill), the random weird fender flares that are just thrown on there with weird terminating points, the stupid black painted/vinyl window channel(cheesy looking), the inevitable price increase, the color themed dash surround (come on I'm not a scion buyer)

Overall the exterior just dosent flow, it looks like a bunch of randomly thrown together design elements, great ideas in the new gen, but not cohesively put together, shame on toyota after 10 years of having time to really hit it out the park with this. Maybe it will grow on me, though I doubt it, thought the same about the new f150 and silverado and still prefer the older versions. So I'm happy with my 2015!

Its hard for me to completely criticize the look of the 3rd Gens when the only thing I see of it is pictures. I know pictures shows a lot but its not the same as seeing it in person.

I saw this render in another thread. Painting the chrome black and color matching the surround makes the ginormous grill an easy fix. As long as the fuel economy of the new v6 is at least 22 combined, I'm gettin' one.

also look at this post for more grill photoshops. https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/tacoma-2016-trd-sport-pics.372631/page-4#post-10223718

I'll have to buy one eventually. The '05 Tundra won't last forever, and you have to buy what is produced. Midsize is what I like, the '05 Tundra is 218" long and barely fits in my garage, I'm trying to keep a truck that fits in my garage. About four years from now I'll have over 200,000 miles on this '05 Tundra. What am I gonna replace it with? If I want to replace it, a same size truck that is badass onroad and offroad, has great resale value, that will probably be a Tacoma. Ugly as I see it or not, I bet I end up with another Tacoma.

I have actually been waiting for the 3 Gen Tacoma for the last couple years. It will replace my 2003 Tundra TRD Limited stepside.

They are going to sell every one they make, and will set record sales.
Why would you not want a modern engine with competitive mileage, a better ride, modern gauges (like outside temp ) and a backup camera on a modern screen.

Toyota is way over due on updating this platform.

Because its still ugly as hell, and a 2-3 mpg bump dosent negatate the trade off, or a still unproven engine (though will likely be reliable), and current gen has backup camera on a modern screen, fyi. I dont need to pay 2-3k more for essentially the same truck with update powertrain and a bunch of gizmos I dont need like wireless cell charger, gopro mount and crawl control. They will sell everyone of them, but they sell every one of the current gen, doubt its record sales, sure an increase cause people will want the newest, but nothing off the charts or out of the norm (refer to sales history below).

Couple of things. Do you have info on the 3 gen Tacoma we don,t have? Are you 100% sure there will only be a 2-3 mpg bump? Are you 100% sure it will be 2-3k more in cost? And as far as the unproven motor I thought this motor or something very close to it has been used in some Lexus models for some time now.

Does anyone know why the number of sales dropped dramatically between 2009 - 2011? Just curious.

Just looking at 2009-20011....I would say prob. the economy along with high unemployment rates. If I'm not mistaken, the housing market was extremely crappy during that time too.

I dont, but I think alot of people are a bit unrealistic about how significant of an increase, most likely it will be one or two mpg better than the GM twins, it has been rumored its a current lexus motor but its still a relatively new motor in comparison to the GR engine which has been around forever and reaches 300k miles without issues, its a toyota im sure it will likely be reliable as well. Toyota will not eat into their current profit margin and you better bet all those new things like blind spot monitoring, digital displays, wireless charging and projector headlights are going to up the price, a loaded GM twin is 39-41k, dont be surprised if you see a 16 limited loaded for 40+k. Im not trying to rain on your parade or anyone elses, midsize trucks are expensive as my roommate always points out, and I'm sure the 16 will be a great truck, but some people who advocate the 3rd gen need to be a little more realistic as well, things like no increase in price with new features, etc, supposed record sales (refer to 04 and 05 sales history), or 28mpg is just unrealistic and silly. But again no one knows at this point, but a betting, educated individual would come to some realistic good guesses in these areas.

I won't be buying one anytime soon because it's just a ugly truck apperance wise outside and inside.Possibly in the future i'll grow to like it.

Current Lexus RX engine is rumored to be the engine or variant of, it is rated AWD 18/24, current 4WD taco 16/21, current 4WD GM twin 17/24, so ya a 2-3 mpg increase from current, something like 18/24 is most likely. Both the Taco and RX have similar curb weights.

Late 2008 the whole US economy tanked. Remember the Auto industry bailout?
Took a few years for everything to get back to normal.

Hopefully by 3Gen refresh 1 or 2 toyota will have worked out and refined this grill.....just as they've done with the 4runner.
