Planning to replace the spark plug wires along with the plugs on my 01 3.4l. Well overdue at 115,000. I went to the dealer and bought 6 of the Denso k16tr11. There seems to be some debate on whether these need to be gapped or not. Guy at the dealer says they come pre-gapped but I can see some slight variations between the plugs. I have the normal dial gapper but not sure if it accurately measures these dual electrode plugs. Any input?

I think you need a special type of gapping tool for the dual electrode plugs... I didn't gap them when I did mine. I've had no issues...

It's a hook type gapper. Couldn't find one drove all over town. Most places didn't know it existed untill they looked in the catalog. Went to autozone, pepboys, Napa and sears, then I gave up. Just threw them in no issues with out double checking the cap. According to Napa they come pregapped because of the cover.

I have never gaped any on the numerous spark plug changes on my 3.4 engines

I made the mistake of measuring and misreading the gap on a few dual electrode plugs. I gaped two or three until i noticed that the electrodes had a slight curve to them which made them difficult to read with the tool I was using. I grabbed a feeler gauge and measured straight across an unadjusted plug and attempted to reset the gap to that. No issues with driveability, but I was a bit pissed...

Consensus seems to be trust the manufacturer and just throw them in there. Yikes!
    I'll update with my results

yes I would agree with the caution that check them anyway and if they are more then just a little off, return it and get another plug, if they are close then go with it as-is

Where did you get a gap tool with a .043 measurement? I haven't had much luck skimming the web.

The factory plugs were definitely out of spec. Ending up gapping them as best as I could, no problems or CEL.
