So I drove my truck today and parked it in my driveway, and it ran no problem, I then took out the air box and rad overflow tank to change a rotted power steering line and did that successfully. BUT. When I went to start my truck after I finished it will crank, fire, start for half a second then die. I admit the. I was working I set a wrench in the battery terminals and it sparked but I checked the main 80 amp fuse and all other fuses and they look intact. What's my issue? Also when I'm in the truck and I turn the headlight knob the parking lights and dash lights come on fine but when j go to turn on the headlights al lights shut off and the check engine light comes on in the dash. Someone help!

Yeah I did that, could I have messed up the sensor in the box?

Maybe. The "crank, fire, start for half a second then die" part makes me think unplugged/bad MAF. Maybe try cleaning the sensor -- might have just gotten gunked up.

How would I do that? Just open the air box and clean it?

It's hard to believe you are knowledgeable enough to replace a power steering line and bleed the power steering pump and not know how to clean a MAF? Not trying to be an asshole. Just YouTube it it's super easy.

I've never dealt with a maf sensor or bothered to mess with one because it's never been an issue I've had to fix. I've changed birfields, axle shafts, bearings cvs, starters put on suspension parts and all that jazz a power steering line is literally nothing, but everything I do I figure out by questions and just messing with stuff. Sorry I rather just ask here then have to check somewhere else

Then cleaning a MAF and checking vacuum hoses is easy compared to those things. To clean the MAF you just spray it with some electrical cleaner. To check hoses you just visually trace all the vacuum hoses running from your intake manifold.

I've done a mod or two
He has a 22RE, they don't have a MAF, they have a vane and flap based AFM (super restrictive but reliable design), they don't really gunk up that easily.

It may have a loose connection though.

Yea I was thinking that but it's been so long since I worked on one. I didn't remember it having a MAP so I just went with what was said above.

Would the loose connection be the big harness plugging into the air box, I've unplugged and reseated It a few times. Vacuum lines are fine.

I'm just spitballing here, but when reading through my service manual troubleshooting problems, it says check ignition cool and alternator wiring harnesses. I didn't mess with any of those but before I disconnected the power steering line I saw it would dump right on my alternator, so I took a plastic grocery bag and wrapped it to cover it. But is it possible that when the power steering fluid was draining it soaked and gummed up one of the alternator wiring harness or something alternator related?
