Can The Taco Handle it?

Well I'm looking for a new utility trailer, my current on is a 12 foot single axle open trailer. I want to get a larger double axle trailer 16 foot. I'm just worried I'm going to damage the truck from overloading it or something. I have the v6 and a trailer brake already installed. Will I be fine hauling a 16 foot tandem trailer out and about?

 

Well considering the trailer alone weights roughly 3500lbs, just don't load it too much. What do you plan on hauling in it?

Edit* read that wrong, it has 3500lb axles.

The trailer weights 1700lbs, you should be fine.

 

I tow my crawler on a 16' trailer...

The power is there but I would recommend to install an auxiliary transmission cooler, the temps can get pretty high in stop and go traffic or during long steep inclines.

 

I tend to over load my trailers, it explains the bent axle on my current one.

Nice setup, I had bought a tranny cooler to have the dealer install, but they told me they couldn't do it. I'm not sure why.

 

You have a safe towing capacity of 6500lbs.

If you overload it, just keep in mind stopping. The truck will tow anything you need it to do, just won't be efficient and don't recommend towing over max for any sort of long distances.

 

I towed a 7x18 ft enclosed trailer weighing around 4500 lbs (stuff+trailer) yesterday. I own a 09 Tacoma with the TRD/Towing package. The truck did well except while climbing hills on the highway. The engine didn't overheat at all but the brake controller was a must.

 

I tow a 7x14 tandem. 1800 empty. I do have bags and a bigger trans cooler though. Also, a ScanGauge to monitor trans temps. The Taco handles it just fine.

 

Tractor plus trailer is 4,287lbs
Four banger power.

 

That trailer is probably around 1500 pounds making the tractor a generous 2787 pounds. You sure on that? Did you get it scaled?
