I saw the craziest thing on my way to work today!

So I was heading to work today. My same old 3 mile route I take every day. I decided to empty our recycling bin at the fire station. So I’m coasting into the turn lane when I see an adult Hispanic man coming down the sidewalk on a skateboard. He’s wearing one of those early ‘90s garish Brooks & Dunn style button downs and jeans. Did I mention he was on a skateboard? So I’m already thinking “I bet this dude could tell me a story or two.” So anyway, I stop to let him safely cross the side street when dude Ollie’s off the curb, freaks out in midair and comes down HARD. He jumps like five feet in the air and runs another ten feet away from his board. I’m sitting here trying to figure out what just happened and Super Dave’s board is lying in the road. This American Hero creeps back over to his board and we see it at the same time. Dude freaking Ollie’d ONTO A SNAKE AND KILLED IT. He picked it up by the tail in awe of his feat. He raised it high like the trophy it was. I sat there in my truck, his lone fan and sole witness to his triumph. I don’t think he ever noticed me and I don’t blame him. There he was, standing tall and proud on the curb with a snake in one hand, his deck in the other and the sun at his back. His silhouette looked like a modern day version of Orion. I’d be lying if the Foo Fighters song “My Hero” didn’t flash through my brain. This guy will tell his tale of victory for years and NO ONE will ever believe him but I SAW IT HAPPEN. I feel bad for the snake but what a way to go, eh? He stood there holding it for what seemed an eternity, searing the image into my brain for the rest of my life.
