I would need to see some third party testing results. I can buy a lot of oil filters for $100! So, it'll take a lot to convince me.

So unless I missed it in the article, I'd assume you have to disassemble, clean and reassemble on some service schedule............ it's just that the filtration media is being considered 'lifetime', correct?

That would mean the labor component of a filter change just got longer. And there is still environmental issue with the cleaning/waste disposal component, although that is less.

OTOH, the production of filters, and complete tossing of old ones, does go away, which would be a good thing.

Here's my guess. Until the OEs tap out of the current filter specs and start using these from the factory, the public uptake will be minimal. I agree that fleets, if they are environmentally conscious, may be the first buyers.

Random thought. You have one of these installed, and hit up a Jiffy Lube. 1) they likely won't know what to do with it. 2) if the monkey has the same vehicle, he may snag yours, pop on a Fram and send you on your way. And still charge for 'cleaning' your filter. ;-)

Awesome idea and the future i'm sure...

I found another one for $249 as a complete conversion

No thank you @ that price. I think the article is a little misleading in that the filter is under $100, but from the looks of it the filter is universal so you'll need the adapter as well and they will probably get you for a unique tool for removal

Based upon the assumption that this filter would need to be cleaned, I'll say a big resounding HELL NO. I don't have time to do that. Not to mention that's going to be messy as all heck. I used to have a K&N air filtercharger for my '95 Toyota Pickup and every time the air filter needed to be cleaned, I absolutely dreaded doing it. It meant extra work and extra downtime because the filter need to be dried naturally (no heat). I'll stick with the current filters thanks.
