That's cheap. Local dealer tried to sell me a 2012 v6 4x4 access cab 6 speed for 34,000.

you mean just like every year and every dealer? Every dealer does this with accesories and then will negotiate the price down, the reason they do it this way is 2 fold, one it gives them room to negotiate with you and 2. you can finance what they add.

That's not dealer markup it's accesorizing - Markup woudl be what they are doing on the pro's which is adding "market value adjustment"....

Exactly, and when you think about it. If you were going to lift it yourself and then do wheels tires, you would have spent the same or close to it. Nice to have a truck hooked up the day you leave the lot.

I mean think this is outrageous, there's a thread running here on TW about "How much have you spent on your Taco?" some members stated they spent $10-18K to achieve a certain look.

The only things off the mark to me, are that no way should a spacer lift (assuming since 2.5") should cost that much, and what is the "credit" for wheels & tires. OEM Dunlops or Rugged Fails, probably run $800 new, and the wheels I think are almost $400 each. I don't see where they are crediting any of that back on the window sticker.

Honestly that's not bad. New lift, wheels and tires. Plus a 3 yr warranty on all of it. A lot of places give you 1 yr warranty if installed by a professional shop.

A mark up with aftermarket parts, I can at least understand. Even if you could do it cheaper you are at least getting something out of it.

What I can't stand is the "Market Value Adjustment." Last time I bought a car, the first dealership that I tried was charging a $10,000 ADM...

It is very common for additional dealer markup here in Canada. Lots of people don't even notice it when buying a car.

I recently was told by a salesman he was going to give me a mind blowing deal, he told me the Mrsp price. I laughed and said that's the Mrsp. He tried to tell me that means they make no money because they have no markup on the vehicle.

And car salesman wonder why they has such a bad stigma.

Ok; $800.00 (?) for the suspension parts??
    $175x4 for the wheels; 700.00
    $350.00 x4 for tires; 1400.00
$200.00 side bars = $3100.00 parts plus taxes
    Labor: 8 hours ($800.00) = $3900.00; using approx. Amazon/aftermarket prices.
$1700.00 profit/markup. (forget about the trade of wheels; stock tires and steel wheels)
    Negotiate it down a thousand?

Here's an experience that will make you go "Hmmm." 4 years ago my wife wanted to replace her 2000 v6 accord with a 2011. We went to look and the list of "add-ons" was ridiculous. For example "Nitrogen in tires, $295, anti-theft wheel nuts $295, rear spoiler $895, etc, etc, etc."

I did some online research to figure out what the dealer was paying for a normal Accord V6 EL Navi car. I looked at the MSRP for that base vehicle. I split the difference, deciding that $1,500 profit for a dealer was not that unacceptable. I wrote an email to a local Honda dealer and said "I am willing to pay exactly this amount for this specific car. If you accept this offer, we will be down tomorrow afternoon and pay cash for the thing. I am NOT going to pay for nitrogen, spoilers, paint sealant, undercoating, air fresheners, toilet paper dispensers or anything else. No Doc fee. No "dealer prep" fee. Nothing added on but sales tax and title application fee."

Didn't expect much. Next day I received a phone call, we received your email, the sales manager and I have talked this over, and we will accept your price if you want the car. We were in and out in 30 minutes. My only question to myself was "should you have offered LESS?" :)

I was especially pissed by this nitrogen nonsense. almost 80% of the air we breathe is nitrogen, the machines that extract it (separate it from O2) do not cost that much to operate. I personally run plain air because I prefer to air tires up at home rather than the new practice where every gas station has a $1.00 air pump.

The dealer markup (market price adjustment) cases I have seen were (a) Dodge Viper, (b) Dodge Challenger SRT, (c) Corvette Z06, (d) Honda S2000 when they first came out. I thought it was an example of greed at its worst. "I know this car will sell so I am going to gouge the buyer of this car when I can't gouge the ones that buy the minivans and chargers.."

I love the fact that when we buy used trucks we look for little old man, bone stock, factory tires, and the plastic still on the floor. Every time I see lift kits and tires I assume the next stunt car driver is getting ready to jump the Grand Canyon. If toyota engineers wanted giant tires, lift kits, exhaust, etc... They would be there. Aka trd pro and accessories. I would be way more inclined to pay for a set of Michelin ltx or some weather guard floor mats rather than the $150 "Tacoma" ones. FWIW

About 10 years ago, I was in a BMW dealership. They had a brand new Z8. MSRP of $126,495. Fair enough... The other sticker was the additional dealer adjustment. Of.. wait for it... $100,000.00 Total of $256,495...

And yes it sold for that... And they still sell for $200,000...

Don't feel bad... it could be worse.

    Yes.
You allowed a $1500 margin over the Honda hold back percentage, so they did quite well.

However, since it was the exact car you wanted, and you were satisfied with the price, don't fret and just enjoy the car.

Just revise your strategy a bit the next time.

I did similar in '04 when I bought the Highlander we have. Spec'd out the vehicle, sent emails to all dealers within 100 miles, asking for their lowest cash and carry price. I knew what I was willing to pay, but didn't give that info out.

Most didn't even respond. Of the 3 or 4 that did, I only had conversation with 2. One wanted to upsell me, the other wanted to close the deal. And his offer was about $500 less that what my top price had been, so I was happy!
