We had our first rain yesterday, but it wasn't too bad. i am pretty heavy with my right foot, though, so i skidded when i hit the gas after the light turned green. since swerving in my truck probably wouldn't be a good idea, i decided to back off a little. coming home from work this afternoon, with a good size drizzle, my truck started to swerve while i was making a pretty wide left turn to a 3 lane street.

Later on, when i was turning into my street, the truck swerved again when i drove through a puddle.

What could be wrong? i have the BF Goodrich All Terrain tires -- pretty sturdy tires. this is the 1st time they have been in the rain. thank god it stopped raining, but a truck is suppose to be sturdier than that, so why did it do that? Defective tires....defective truck...? Now i dread driving tomorrow as the roads would still be a tad wet.

Can someone tell me what should i do at this point?

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
The ass end of these trucks is really light, especially with that composite bed. I had the same issue with the same tires on my 98. I just learned to take it easy in the rain. Also, are your tires over inflated? They may cause you to loose traction in wet conditions also.

I think since this was your first rain it could of just been all the oil on the streets making it extra slippery. Hopefully it wont be as slippery when the next rain comes. It was the same thing here, very slippery, i would spin the tires every time i would take off. Thats with stock crappy tires and a little bit of a heavy foot though + manual transmission. Good luck!

x2...gotta be carfull when it's wet out bud, you'll end up sideways. Having a knobby tire doesn't help either

but i was literally dreading to hit the gas at every light -- it was pretty bad --then i started looking around at other truck drivers and they dont seem to have the problem i was having. i actually saw one truck taking a nice mean corner.

After my 1st swerve yesterday --i feel at this point like i barely tap on the gas and it swerves. Just like the puddle coming home i mean it iwas a puddle (!!!) Am gonna go check on my tires now. ---sigh --- thanks

I think this is the truck's fault, mine has sleep more than 3 times in raining days with yokohama avid suv tires, I think it is because the rear is too light in this tacoma

Whenever it rains here, I actually try to skid bc I think it's fun. I only do that whenever no cars are around and I'm in an open space. Other than that I just keep my foot light when driving in rain.:)

gotta let some air out those tires i run around 26-28psi in the winter here it rains all winter on vancouver island. And you just have to drive for the conditions after burning around on dry pavement for so long you forget how slippery it is when its wet.

That's how trucks are, I've been driving trucks a long time and one thing you learn is to be easy on the gas especially at starts and on curves. The truck I have now has a LSD which helps it somewhat but it still doesn't handle like a car. My wife complains about the same thing (this is her first time driving a truck). If your truck stays on the pavement I would recommend getting street tires instead of all terrains, Yokohama Parada Spec-X is good but not sure if it would go with your rims.

My husband just let some air out of the tires --hopefully that would help.

First rain is always dangerous. Small droplets of oil, granulated rubber on the road will all rise in an oily slick on the first rain, expecially by stop signs, corners and intersections. This is killer material. I believe this is what you experienced with the light rear end. Even with more weight in the rear, this will still be a threat. Just be careful on the first rain. Think oil slick on the road.

I don't suppose your boyfriend could have slipped a supercharger into the truck without you noticing? Nope?... Didn't think so. That couldn't have happened.

If you have the TRD Sport (says something like that in your profile), you have a LSD. Check out this link, it's about Hydroplaning : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydroplaning_%28tires%29

If your truck stays on the pavement, you will get better grip and performance from a street tire.
