Hey guys, I've got a noise coming from the front end of the truck when braking. Happens when I put it in reverse or drive on the FIRST brake application (after that it doesnt happen again in that direction). The clacking doesn't happen when in 4x4. Kinda weird.

    Here's a video

Nothing has changed recently except I did an oil change. Also got my tires rotated at my local shop. Haven't noticed anything weird while driving and it isn't throwing any codes. I'm due for brake service soonish, but there's still plenty of pad left.

    Any ideas? Thanks!

Wouldn't it happen while in 4x4 if that were the case?

    Thanks

Mine did something similar, but not as consistently. I didn't use enough caliper grease when I changed my pads. I took it all apart and regreased everything and it's quiet now.

    That's not pad slap.

That has a tinny sound to it. My truck is at the body shop or I'd look under. By ear I would say you have something hitting the rock shield behin the rotor. The 4wd thing is a bit perplexing, but pulling the tire and rotating by hand would be my first move to diagnose it.

To me it sounds like maybe a stick or piece of hard plastic is caught somehwere and is being caught and released like clapper in a bell or something.

Can the pads hit the rock shield?

Honestly haven't been under my truck to be familiar with the clearancing.

When I think pad slap I'm thinking rotational movement of the pad. I just can't visualize that tinny sound from the caliper bracket.

Something is hitting thin metal, not familiar enough with the tacoma in general to visualize the set up. First Tacomabut have worked on cars most of my life.
