For those that installed a plug and play HID, with no retrofit, how is it to you?

Using the search function all I have found are people either doing, done, or recommend retrofit. Since I have gotten a lot of information on what, how, and why to retrofit for HID, how are HID's in the second generation Tacoma's without retrofits? I am specifically looking on how it is in lighting at night, pulled over by cops, and any other important information I may not be aware of.

I've seen them on other Tacomas and I'm not fond of them. I usually see them with plug-n-play HIDs in their foglights also. I've seen some posts where they say the foglights by themselves are as bright as headlights. Foglights compliment headlights, and by themselves they're not supposed to put out adequate light, just enough to compliment headlights by illuminating the sides of the road during inclement weather.

These Tacomas I see with HIDs in the foglights put out a blinding amount of light, well to me anyways. Having HIDs in both headlights and foglights just make it worse, I get blinded if they're behind me or in oncoming traffic. I don't know if these people aim their lights or not, but I would assume that it would help a little bit. And I should disclose that my vision is not what it used to be. My eyes transition from bright to dark slowly. I'm also assuming that drivers with better eyesight can handle those transitions much faster and not even be affected at all from misaligned HIDs or any headlights in general.

As far as cops I don't think they care anymore. Haven't seen any mention of citations for HIDs on any forums lately.

If go the plug-n-play route, be sure to aim your headlights after installation. And I recommend any kit rated between 4100k-5000k. I've seen some HIDs with so much blue (these are usually 6000k and up) in them that they hardly light up the road.

 yea I kno I kno I'm that ass hole but it's all about opinion and my opinion is that the hids put off way more light and make it much safer and easier for me to see at night so I'm not really worried about other people being blinded by my lights they don't hurt my eyes:rolleyes:

    In before thread /

Everybody bitches about hids in stock housings...
But yet there are oem manufacturers doing just that!? So what's the difference? Most people are just looking for more output so they can see better. If u are gonna stare at my headlights like a moth, U need to not have your license....

The guy driving in front of you is going to be blinded. And a proper driver pays attention to front and rear. Glare coming in from the mirrors does affect vision.

You can get more light AND not blind people by doing a proper retrofit.

No, there are no OEM manufacturers doing that. If they did that, they will be out of compliance with DOT and be fined. The ONLY reflector housing that I know of that can use HIDs is a specially designed housing for the 2005-2009 Ford Mustangs. And that one uses a special shield in front of the bulb to control light output and pattern, and is in no way similar to the stock halogen housing.

Glare is an annoyance. You don't have to be looking directly at it to be annoyed and affected by it.

^^^^ This. No OEM uses a halogen headlamp with HID's. I ran HID's for about 2 months before I got sick of the scatter and forked out the cash to build a set of retro's. They were expensive, they were a PIA, but the light output is so much better.

It's not so much that people are staring at your lights that it's so bright in the rear and side view mirrors that causes people to hate them. I find it extremely annoying having a person with HID's and no projector. It's not that hard to retrofit and it makes the truck look better. Just retrofit and save people from blasting you on this site

You say they look good, I (and a lot of other people) say they look stupid and that you are a hazard on the road.

I am curious if those that use them for their own personal safety uses to drive around with their brights on all the time before HIDs existed?

Please don't use HIDs in halogen housings. There are some HIDs that are designed to go in halogen housings but they have special shrouds around them. You blind people and it's just a dick move. You hear me @sladesdaddy1022 not cool dude!
