So I bought my truck about a year ago and the air conditioner did not work so i took it back and they replaced the compressor and it worked! Now that it is summer I turned on the AC and I am getting a flashing orange light and it is not producing any cold air. Does anyone know what this could be?

    Yes sir
Your AC might need to be recharged, you may have a freon leak, or your air compressor might not be engaging. It's good to fire up your AC a couple times a month during the winter just to keep it running smoothly.

FYI , the AC cycles when either defrost setting is selected

By "either defrost setting", you mean like heat or cold? Didn't know that, I've been told that using your AC is good to keep everything running properly. :notsure:

If you put it full on defrost blowing on the windshield, or the windshield / foot setting. It kicks on the A/C compressor. It's so it's blowing dry air onto the windshield and side windows. It clears a fogged up window alot quicker and more efficiently then without the compressor on, removing humidity.

The A/C button just doesn't light up to say the compressor is on.

Sorry we got a little off topic, but like I said your AC might need to be recharged, you may have a freon leak, or your air compressor might not be engaging.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
Freon hasn't been used in car AC systems in a long time, it's illegal to use in cars today because of environmental concerns. Which sucks because freon fired AC units worked really well and put out some seriously cold air, enough to freeze your kneecaps!

I think the stuff they use now is called puron or something along those lines.

HFC134A replaced R12. People call them both "freon". R12 killed the ozone layer like crazy so they did away with it in the 80s. You might have a leak in the system which will not make the system run, there could be an electrical problem like a dead switch or blown fuse .... there could be a lot of things preventing it from turning on. Most common thing I'd say is a leak. I had an AC fan short out once and it kept blowing the fuse. Take it in and have the AC guys check the pressure first.

Finally took the truck in to Toyota. They searched and searched for just over 3 hours (250$) and finally found a small leak in the suction hose they checked all the mechanical and electrical and said it was all good. They then quoted me 220$(part) 400$ (labour) plus tax to swap in the new hose and then they said that they are not gaurenteeing that this will work. I am now wondering if it is possible to just duct tape the hose to see if it will work and if it does them ill go ahead with the new hose. if anyone knows where the suction hose is that would be helpful as well. Thanks

Did your quick fix work? My 14 Tacoma a/c suddenly stopped working.

I checked all sorts of fuses and relays to no avail. I'm thinking about taking it in to the mechanic. I have my wife's RAV4 to compare to and tried the same relay thinking that was an issue but not. I'm running out of ideas to check.

This happened to my moms Camry. The flashing AC light. Was a dirty cabin filter. Try taking out cabin filter see what that does.

    To the OP:

If you have a flashing light on the dash, that means the compressor wants to start, but it cant. It's likely the clutch or the compressor issue.

You can't duct tape the suction hose. It is still under pressure even though it is called suction hose.

I hate to say it, but the dealership is the last place to take a vehicle for a.c. Work.

The suction hose is the larger of the 2 hoses.

Interesting. I'm trying to figure out why this would cause the light to flash.

I do hope someone can offer insight.
