I just purchased a 2015 Tacoma double cab (short bed). I'd like to get a roof rack to haul two 12' kayaks. I was looking at getting the OEM rack, but I've been doing some research and there seems to be some question on the strength of the plastic rack. Should I not bother with the OEM and go right to an after market rack? Any recommendations on specific racks?

    Thanks

Nothing wrong with going aftermarket. Especially for piece Everything I do on the truck is based on the "do it once, do it right" saying. I would hate to get the OEM one, have it break and then upgrade to an aftermarket one; essentially buying two roof racks.

I have had Thule roof racks on both my Tacoma DCs to carry two kayaks.
My first was on a 2006 for 5 yrs no complaints or issues.
I used it ALOT and even had a third kayak shoved between J hulls at times no issues.
Never took it off until I traded the truck.
I sold it on CL because I went to a Tundra.
Well sold the Tundra & bought another DC Tacoma.
Thought I would go the OEM Roof Rack route & actually bought one here in the Classifieds.
For some reason, I couldn't get past the look for me (some people like the look).
Soooo...sold the OEM went with another Thule.
