values are all over the place, so I would like some input. I am thinking of selling my 2001 extra cab 4x4, black, 2.7 auto, 155,000 miles. rust free from south Carolina.
New rugged trails, dents and dings, needs rear bumper.
    Any input is appreciated.

Have you tried Kelly Blue Book (KBB.com) or the NADA guide? You can use their valuation link for free. All you need to due is provide the vehicle information, mileage etc. and either select the private party or trade-in buttons and it will give you the value. Its very simple to use and somewhat in the ballpark. I found the NADA Guide to be closer in true value but KBB is a good starting point. I hope this helps you out.

I did use KBB, it said about 5600 but then I see guys here talking like they are gold or something. I hate to miss out on a few bucks.

I'm not sure why, but KBB values are notoriously low for our trucks. (KBB says a base model '01 4WD Xtra Cab should be $4.9K - $6K.) NADA, OTOH, says it should be $5.9K - $10K.

In my experience, these trucks (in decent condition) go for well-above KBB (usually closer to the high-end of NADA), even when purchased from private sellers.
