    Hello Marv,

Is it possibly to fit 2 mtx 12's that need at least 6 inches of depth in the box to fit in a 2008 double cab?

all of the boxes iv found online only go around 5 inches deep maybe a tad more.

    Thanks!

Unfortunately that would require use of a plasma cutter Brian! Seriously though the mounting depth is not set in stone rather it is determined by the basket size/shape, magnet size shape and those are too large as well as too deep.

Unfortunately it looks like those would require repositioning of the rear seats in order to fit.

Figured I'd post my updated system. With the help of this post and Mr Marv's expertise, I was able to build a sub box and replace front and rear speakers and install RAAM-Mat and ensolite. Looking forward to final tuning with Marv this weekend, but it sounds quite good so far!

I followed all of the steps in this tutorial for the wiring and sound deadening on all 4 doors and the back of the cab. I built the box out of baltic birch 1/2" plywood, exactly to JL spec, and used a vertical channel so I can make use of the child seat anchor (little one on the way). I cut the back out of the plastic insert to make room for the box, bolted the box to the back rail from the inside and sealed with washers and silicone. I had to cut the shelf off of the bigger insert to fit the amp rack.

I originally set the front gain on the amp based on the JL manual, but it was too loud and I ended up dropping it. 2 layers of RAAM-MAT and an 8x8 piece of ensolite directly behind the front mids made a huge difference as well.

    Equipment:
    AVH-4000NEX
Hybrid Audio Unity 6.5s in the front (tweets and mids active off the 500/5 amp)
Hybrid Audio Mirus 5.25s in the back (running off of the deck)
JL 10TW3 in a custom sealed box at .52 cubic feet (thanks for the help on this Marv!)
JL Slash 500/5 - 100W to front mids, 25W to front tweets, 250W to sub
RAAM-MAT and ensolite on all 4 doors and back of cab.

You could always cut out a rectangle on the back wall of your box where the magnet is hitting and patch with a thinner material such as plexi glass.

I have the JBL sound system in my 2008. How much better are the JBL speakers then say the base model ones that Toyota provides?

I have mentioned this simple carpeting procedure I use to numerous members who didn't want to cut their plastic bins (new bins cost over $800.00 through Toyota!) in order to get a nice finished look on the back wall but couldn't find my pictures so one of the members sent me these. A couple of tips are to use "non backed" carpet so you can stretch it slightly to fit smoothly around the peaks/valleys and be sure you carpet under the plastic trim on the sides so metal cannot be seen from an angle when using my short version enclosure as shown. It looks great IMO when it is carpeted the same color as the enclosure/amp rack however if you use the spray on bedliner finish on the enclosure you could always use black carpet on the back wall. Nice thing is if you want to bring it back to stock you can just snap your bins back in right over the carpet.

Hi guys, I just ran across this thread and had a few questions..

I purchased a box from Marv a few years ago, and I'm running an Arc audio 10" sub in it. I don't know if something is wrong, but it has never really sounded consistently good. On a few songs, it hits fine, but on most songs, it feels like its bottoming out, or like its not matched to the box correctly..or something its just really flat..changing the EQ doesn't really help either. It just makes it seem worse. I'm stumped because on a few songs, it DOES sound good..

my last setup was much more consistent.

Also, it seems to hit harder with the windows down. I didn't cover any vents up when I sound deadened it, so has anyone experienced that?

Just thought I'd share my setup in my Double Cab Tacoma. Running (2) Powerbass Shallow Mount 12" subs and full component system in front and rear doors.

I just installed 4 component speakers Kicker QS and a sub with a Kicker IQ 1000.5 on a non-JBL/premium entune headunit. The sounds I working fine but there is an audible hum that is noticeable when the truck is quiet. The hum doesn't change on engine RPM and gain has been reduced to the lowest setting. I believe that there is a ground loop between the head unit and the AMP. I will be testing the issue with a ground loop isolator first and then grounding the RCAs from the LOC if that doesn't change the sound. Thoughts?
