Well fellas, A friend of mine works at a shop that has lathe( CNC and manual ) and CNC Mill. I am looking for something to make that can be used on our trucks or be functional. All i have to pay for is the material costs...... Anyone got ideas, cool or handy things i should have him make? I have been tossing around some ideas but nothing that has been meaningful for my truck

A couple years ago we made a couple shift knobs with the school lathe. I also made a couple boxed recovery hooks out of steel stock and then drilled a hole to fit hitch pin. Could always do some badges or something similar. Make sure you post up some pictures! Be careful once you start creating stuff you get addicted fast!

oooooooooo..... I'm envious, my work cut us off from free metal shop time.... you could go two ways, one for an idea to recreate and sell or whatever. Or two, make a thing no one else has. I would personally make a cup with a lid that fits perfectly in my cup holder, but I'm a potter so....

I would ask, what would you like your truck to have that it doesnt?

Maybe custome hub covers for the wheels?

possibly a swing tire gate and rebuild my front bumper slightly but i don't see how this equipment will help me there.
The only thing i can think of is maybe some cut out patterns and the swing tire gate pivot

i guess i really don't know what these machines can do, so i don't have any direction to steer my imagination lol.
I know i can make some Audio tweeter pods and sell those per say, and maybe some fancy panel work per say

I understand the creative block..... maybe start with a shift knob or some thing turned, then embelish it with the cnc mill.... that should be a way to get some idea of the machines and will get your ideas flowing.

I have been playing with the 3d printer lately and have been underwhelmed with it and have gone back to working by hand, but I do miss the cnc mill some days when I want a perfectly sized tool or peice..

Knuckles would be fun but .... again no idea what I'm doing in that field of things

Prototyped portal axles lol. I've always wanted to build a telescoping light pole that hinges at one side of the bed rail beneath the rear of the cab and just mount a led pod on it with some kind of diffuser on it.

I believe auto cad - inventor is free through any school for a student. If you know a "student" you can go on there website and download it. I have had it downloaded since I graduated high school. Its fun to play around on and will save you some money while you are brainstorming.
