I have a 1997 Tacoma. Paid $400 for it. I would like to put on some 33's. I'm getting fender flares for it as well. I'm debating what kind of lift I should get. I know that a body lift is cheaper and easier to instal but the suspension lift I'm looking at replaces the leaves, shocks, coils, a arms. It's quite a bit more costly than a body lift. Is the suspension lift worth the extra cost? I'm looking at a BOSS 3 inch adjustable lift.

It depends on how you will be using your truck and what your budget is. Is it a 4x4? If you intend to do a lot of off pavement stuff, what type?

There is nothing wrong with the system you listed, but there are several options available besides that one.

Yes it's a 4x4. It's just a fun little truck that I bought and thought I might make it into a project. I use it as a daily driver all winter. But due to the fact I live on a farm in rural Saskatchewan I see a lot of snow. So I thought a suspension lift would be nice to help lift my frame up out of the snow and mud a little bit. With it having the 3.4 v6 quad cam I'm pretty sure it has the power to turn 33's under it.

There is no need to spend more for a lift kit than you paid for the truck if you don't plan on hardcore wheeling. I bought a 2.5 inch lift a couple of years ago from Fat Bob's garage for $240.00 and am happy with it. Just a spacer for the fronts and longer shackles/shocks for the rear. Was not looking for the best flex, cushiest ride or tallest truck, just wanted to fit a set of 33's I had laying around plus be something I could install myself. I have another vehicle for a dedicated wheeler anyway and only use the Taco go to and from work with some occasional dump runs, farm work and light wheeling getting firewood in the hills. I knew I didn't need maximum performance just tire clearance. Install took 5 hours and initially gave me 3 full inches of lift which has settled about half an inch since then. I know I am in the minority here, seems like everyone says OME, Billies or adjustable coils but the cheap route worked for me. I did have to remove the front mud flaps and do a little fender bashing for clearance but this was easy. Save your $ for something fun like a winch, lockers or bumpers. My truck flexes fine, CV angles are good and the ride is only slightly stiffer than stock. My V6 auto still has plenty of power to turn the 33's so I can still burn rubber if I want; luckily I do have 4.56 gears which help. Good luck with your project!

Get the cheaper toytec lift with 5100s,eibachs, and aal. Youl be much happier with a decent suspension lift than an ugly 3" body lift even if it is gona be a beater. Youl have more ground clearance and a better ride.

Figured I'd piggy back on this post since it's about lifts. I bought a Tacoma for really cheap, the guy has this thing rigged up. The CV's are at a pretty bad angle and the ball joints are maxed out. What all would I have to remove and add to get just a regular 3 inch lift on the truck?
