Hey I got a 2013 tacoma TRD and I was debating whether to get the k&n filter or AFE pro dry S direct fit? I saw some bad reviews on the K&N with the dirt and having to oil it when cleaning. I would appreciate feedback. Thanks!

I just got the K&N filter today, I noticed a minor difference in the acceleration but obviously nothing huge. I've heard great things about AFE, but if you really think about it how much difference could there really be. I would go with whatever costs less and requires less maintenance. And what buddy is saying about the paper ones, I completely disagree. The amount of money you spend on a K&N or AFE filter will be the amount it costs to replace a paper air filter twice or three times. In the long term, these filters will save you a ridiculous amount of money. Unless you're really not concerned about that.

I have the AFE stage 2. At the very least, your upgrading to a reusable air filter. Slight change in sound accelerating. Also, I noticed night and day difference with the throttle response at highway speeds.

U can throw the truck on a dyno with the stock filter, and then NO filter and u will see zero gains...... Replace the intake with the afe stage 2si. The intake is the issue, not a filter.

^Agreed, seems like those who've actually taken the leap of faith tend to have related opinions about it

I've owned K&N's over the years in a couple different vehicles. I've never had a problem with dust/dirt getting past the filter. The filters have to be 'seated' properly in the box and they have to be kept clean. I cleaned & oiled mine twice a year. The 'oil' is what captures the fine dust - and if the filter is dirty...nothing else will capture the dust.

With that being said...I currently own an AFE in my 2007. The only reason why I changed - was to eliminate that extra step of 'oiling' process, not need to clean it twice a year, and I was curious to see the performance. With AFE, I clean it once a year.

The last K&N I owned (in 96 tacoma with deckplate mod) gave me better throttle response and more pep. That performance could've been from the combination of deckplate mod and K&N.

The AFE I have now....hasn't given me any better performance than the stock OEM paper filter. Not that I've noticed anyway...but then again, I don't race and I just drive around town/work.

With K&N...there may be better performance, but.....more maintenance/cleaning.

I have a K&N cold air on my 2005 Ted sport and I noticed improved throttle response and a litte bit more of an aggressive sound. Couldn't tell much in terms of power though.

Also cleaning the filter is very easy, K&N sells a kit with some apart to loosen dirt and new oil, takes about an hour to clean and let it dry.

This. Had an OEM filter, replaced with K&N, no difference in performance and only a slight increase in MPG, .03 at best. But also, I do run 10 ply 285 x 18 in. wheels, which are very heavy. FWIW
