Perhaps no great deals for the last 2015s?

Good price! Something like 1500 to 2000 below MSRP is a typical price it seems in most geographic regions. Though it seems some areas people are frequently able to beat the dealer a bit lower while in other areas they are just told to walk. So I'd say you got a good 1000 or more below the "real" or "typical" price for a Tacoma with that price. From the "What did you pay" thread it seems $3K below MSRP deals come up pretty regularly and always have so I'd suspect your good fortune is not necessarily related to the 2016 in anyway. But it is a good deal - wish I'd gotten that much off :)

If there are any '15s on the lot is the question though. If there are very few 2015s left when the 2016s hit then I really wonder how much of a discount there will actually be on the "last" 2015. The sales numbers right now seem to imply no slow down at all in 2015 sales, in many geographic regions a Tacoma spends less than 7 days sitting on the lot. If that continues there will be very few 2015s sitting on lots along side 2016s. Of course everything could change in the last month right before the 2016 shows up.

Over in the 3rd gen thread a dealer there is saying he expects that a 2016 sold this September will probably sell for about $1500 more than the same 2016 sold come middle of 2017. In other words he expects the first 2016 buyers will be paying about a $1500 premium over "normal" negotiated prices to be able to get some of the first 2016s in Sept/Oct.

So let's say the mid-2017 price for the 2016 is akin to the "normal" price for a 2015 right now. That means the 2016 will be selling at a 1500 premium to the 2015 already for equal MSRPs. And lets assume the 2016 MSRP is already a bit higher than the 2015 - call it 1000 higher for something like a TRD. That would mean the 2016 was already $2500 more than the "normal" 2015 price for equivalent options. Is the dealer really going to have to discount significantly compared to that if he's only got a few 2015s left to sell anyway? I agree, he will certainly negotiate on a 2015 more than on a 2016 - but will he really need to negotiate that much more than he would right now?

Obviously I don't know the answer, which is why the whole thread is kind of useless speculation. But I seriously wonder if waiting for the 2016 to be on the lot will just mean having very few 2015s to choose from and not much of a discount on them. And if it means getting an extra $1000 off of a truck with $1000 of extra options on it you don't want in the wrong color then maybe it wasn't such a good bargain in the end!

eh... they are selling the crap out of the 15's in Daytona Beach. I work across the street from the stealerships new car offsite new arrival lot or don't fit on the sell lot and I see the Tacos keep coming on haulers and going up the street with porters driving them. Interestingly the Kia dealership has a lot next door and when the revised Soul was ready they had Zero old models. Someone wants the old version of our trucks. Me included with my recent 15 purchase :)

Don't read too much into the numbers. I don't think the mid size market has increased appreciably because; don't forget that Dodge and Ford exited the mid size market and the remaining players are still scrambling to fill the void.

Yes, good point. The mid-size market may have been under served for a few years since Dodge and Ford left the market. Well, and of course Chevy/GMC left the market too before now re-entering it. So in some sense there is probably a lot of market demand to be met with supply that has been offline for awhile and as you say there is a void there to be filled by Chevy/GMC coming back to the market.

Some of GM's success is due to the pent up demand by folks who are looking for a mid size truck and will only buy American name plates. There are a lot of Americans that feel that way. I know some of them personally.

Yeah but i think the issue with full sized trucks is that they are getting bigger and bigger and some people dont need an RV sized truck to do their day to day stuff. I mean look at the new F150, the thing is absolutely massive and you cant even park it at the grocery store. I can only see the midsize segment getting more popular.

luckily i drove my boyfriend's f150 for about 4k miles before i got my tacoma, it pointed out everything to me that i DIDN'T want in a truck. parking was definitely not easy. plus an access cab in a truck that big, made it really had to get things in and out of the back in tight parking lots
