    I'm salty. No pun intended...

I went and had my 2006 x-runner "inspected" for the frame rust issue covered by the service campaign. Toyota is running TWO campaigns for this, one is where they give you a free underbody coating to prevent further rusting, and they other (southern/warm states) where they tell you to have a nice day.

I called Toyota Corporate and complained about not getting the free service. They told me only the 'cold weather' states would be getting the free undercoat because of the salt on the roads. I promptly stated, "I live in a state surrounded by salt water and live on the beach", to which they replied with silence and basically said, sorry that's how the campaign is written and we will note your complaint...

Toyota is really screwing us "warm weather" states. They should be giving EVERYONE with this truck a free undercoat, what if my frame shows signs of failure in 5 years? I'm just screwed? How can they run the same campaign and only offer the preventative service to cold weather states? What if someone moves to a cold weather state after this campaign ends?

Has anyone else had this experience? I find it extremely unfair and suggest a petition, but I don't even know how to start one.

My assumption is that your frame is in far better shape than ours (i am in MN). If you have surface rust, i bet Yota calls that normal, and i would tend to agree. Now, if you can use a hammer to pound a hole in your frame, or you have flaking chunks that you can pull off your frame, then you got a point......

I think if someone registered a truck in MN from down south Yota would honor the checkup and do what's needed, they go by your account creation on their "toyotaowners.com" website.

thank you for bringing this up because I live in Daytona Beach and we drive on the beach(no not in the water before someone brings that up :) ). Can't get much more Southern Salty than that. Got me thinking about this frame rust nonsense. Hope my 15 came with some kind of undercoating after all these years of complaints it seems?

fwiw I'm from Georgia and I barely have any rust. I'm not understanding this call for some free chit when there is no need.

You're from Georgia, not much salt there.

Either way though, wouldn't you want to get a nice FREE undercoat if people with the SAME vehicle and recall are?

in 5 years you might wish you agreed with me...

nah I'd pass because rust can form under the coating if it is penetrated by something. my 07 is 8+ and honestly if it was going to happen it would have done so already. ymmv

There is nothing "nice" about the CRC! Consider yourself lucky you don't need it
I traded my 07 for a 15 after that "freebie"

    .
I live on ky. My truck orignally came from tenn. I wouldnt call that a northern truck. An i keep it so clean its freakin crazy and my frame is made out of crap and it needs to be replaced. Period. U cant knock a hole in it with a screw driver but its flakey and has rust. I have 3 lil kids and a wife and it drives me nuts yota wont get on the horn and fix it. I have been a yota fan for years never owned anything but for the most part. Prolly wont ever buy another. Hate to say it. But its true. They may last but if my frame rust and breaks in half going down the highway i dont think i will care if it last a little longer then a ford or gm engine. If they dont fix mine i will be buying another brand from here out.

Is your frame rusting and falling apart? No. Don't worry about it. Oh and the crap they spray on the roads up north is more than just salt.
