Two days ago it was announced that the gov't is basically forcing Takata to recall airbags that are in 34 million vehicles in the US. Worldwide there are more than 50M vehicles affected.

When the airbags explode, they explode too forcefully, and send pieces of shrapnel from the airbag housing flying through the air. It is literally like having a small grenade go off as soon as you collide with someone. Some people have died from the shrapnel, and others have had serious injuries to their face and eyes.

Takata did a recall last year that did not impact the Tacoma, but the vehicles impacted by this recall are not yet known. It will take a few weeks for the manufacturers to cross reference with Takata to determine what cars are impacted. Some industry 'experts' are predicting that it could take two to five years to replace all the faulty airbags. In some states it is illegal to sell a car unless all recall's are completed, so this has a potentially huge impact on the used car market, in addition to risk 34 million people face driving around with small grenades in their car. http://money.cnn.com/2015/05/21/autos/takata-airbag-recall/

So does anyone know if Tacoma's use Takata airbags? If they use another brand, we're in luck. If Tacoma's have Takata's we have to wait see if ours got recalled. If mine are recalled, I think I am going to take them out of the truck.

Just a huge expansion of the previous recall. Tacoma is not listed as part of the recall.

    Lexus SC, 2002-2007

    Toyota Corolla, 2003-2007

    Toyota Corolla Matrix, 2003-2007

    Toyota Rav4, 2004-2005

    Toyota Sequoia, 2002-2007

    Toyota Tundra, 2003-2006

Obviously we won't know for sure until the final list is put together, but at this point it looks unlikely that the Tacoma is included.

Keep in mind that a large part of the expansion in vehicles recalled isn't new models or model years but rather that the previous recall only affected certain geographic regions (hot and humid ones specifically). So really a whole bunch of the new vehicles in this recall are the exact models and years from the previous recall - the recall now just includes the entire country.

It seemed like in a few cases it was also just an expansion of model years for a model in the previous recall.

Since the Tacoma was never included in the original recall at all it probably won't be included in this one. But again, to be sure you'll just have to wait. It sounded as if it would take a few weeks to properly specify all the vehicles and VINs being recalled such that you could check.

The sky is falling, give it a few weeks for the list, don't overload the website which has already happened. It will take TWO YEARS at least for them to fix all the vehicles. Can't make 25,000,000 cylinders overnight.
