I guess the instruction was to put it on both the outside of the smaller diameter pipe and the inside of the fitting...I didn't follow instructions and only put it on the inside of the fitting then pushed the pipes in.

Should I redo? Because if I get a leak it would cost thousands to open up the tile/wall and move tub back out to redo this...

Better to cut off pipes and redo now ? Or don't even worry about it?

you need to primer AND cement both the inside of the fitting and around the pipe.

if you didnt do this, itll leak eventually.

remember. PRIMER both pieces. CEMENT both pieces. insert, quarter turn.

    done.

I redid it. Wasn't as bad as I thought but definitely worth the peace of mind when I put the bathtub and tiles over everything.

Primer is a ripoff. If you break the skin (i.e. sand or wire brush) of the pipe/fitting, it is not needed. For a D.I.Y er, it's a waste of money. Take the time to sand the ends, and you'll get a better bond.

If it's not leaking now, it never will. It's just solvent, and if the plastic is melted together, it won't come apart except under extreme conditions (vibrations, heavy stress, etc.).

We always use primer on PVC pipe that will carry pressure , in our area , DWV pipe is ABS and no primer is used
