There is plenty of room for the 6BT too. They are just difficult to find for a reasonable price.

One side is almost done. I underestimated how much fun it would be. New bearings, seals, and of course the part time hubs. I was only able to get one hub. Apparently there is some union strike going on with the longshoreman and my other hub is sitting in a container on the docks. Fuck unions, and I pity anyone forced to pay the bastards just to be able to go to work.

Ya, the taco is getting beat up this summer. I'm considering popping the motor out of the FJ80 to replace all of the seals and gaskets, and doing a minor rebuild on it. The thing that stops me is the empty hole it would create would be too tempting to fill with something else!

Spent the last two weeks in the dirt with the dragon. She was beat up on hundreds of miles of washboard roads and no squeeks or rattles developed. These are solid machines. I did have a strange issue arise which took some hillbilly engineering to repair. I was in BFE, 40 miles from pavement on a two track when I tried to turn around. As soon as I put it in reverse, the idle would jump all over and it would die. That makes it impossible to turn around on said road. It took me a while to figure out that the intake boot was torn on the bottom (hidden) side, and when I put it in reverse the motor would flex, expanding the crack and allowing a large vacuum leak which killed the motor. I've been saying I could fix anything with duct tape for years, and for once it was true.

I also found some lunch and made friends with a porcupine. He's kind of a prick at first.

He's the same dog I've had for 9 years. Got him in Germany. He's just getting older and becoming more of a smart ass with time.

I shot it and of course it flopped into some thick brambles, so I call my loyal "retriever" over to sniff it out. He happily goes crashing into the bushes, so I follow for a bit also looking for the bird. I found it. Next thing I know I hear splashing and look over and my dog is playing in the river, having completely aborted the mission. Bastard fooled me into fetching my own bird. :D

During hunting season on tight turns in 4lo I was hearing some clicking from the driver side birf. I'm not sure if it was due to the seal going out allowing gear oil in the birf or it's just beat up, but I figured a new set of axles was in order. The FJ80 (1991-1993) has shorter front stub shafts than the later FJZ80 and nearly all decent shafts available are for the FJZ. You can install the longer drive plates to the FJ of course, but since I have hubs the only option was the Longfields from trail-gear. There is some interweb kerfluffle over the quality of these axles, but I haven't been able to find a review of the new gun drilled version that just came out so I'll put them to the test and see what happens. The good thing is I'll still have the passenger side birf as a spare if they grenade. Hopefully they don't take long to ship!

I would call them lube holes. Maybe that's why my career in sales was short lived..

I would proudly sport that shirt. That motto has ruled my life for many years. Before that it was "brute force and ignorance", which was a play on the latin motto of the unit I was in.

    1. Live like you are going to die tomorrow.

    2. Plan like you are going to live forever.

    3. Think safety, because nothing ruins a good time like a ride in medevac chopper.

Everyone always says "safety first", but that's bullshit. You would never leave your couch if that was true.
