That's sounds like the best choice ... Is the sunroof a "limited" option ?

    Sure...it's smart. I never denied that ...

It's allowing us to fall asleep at the wheel because the Advanced Collision braking system will brake for you. It's the ....My child is outside playing and I don't know where they are - so the rear sensors will let me know if its OK to back up. It's the ......I don't have to look before changing lanes because the blind spot monitor will let me know when its' not clear.

How about we get some sleep before driving or stop and take a nap? How about we walk around our vehicles and make sure our children are safe inside the house before we go anywhere? And how about we turn our heads to look or have a mirror that you can actually SEE the blind spot?

I know these 3rd gens will have these smart gadgets, and that's fine. I pray to God I don't ever become that person who takes these sensors for granted and stops having 'situational awareness'.

Thank you for refraining from calling it an ACLB. That grinds my gears. It's an AC and that's it.

Yeah, but sometimes I think an ACSB would be a pretty neat little truck.

You assume that people were paying attention before. They weren't.

Anyways I'm not going to debate how stupid it is that manufacturers are adding more safety features because apparently that encourages dumb people to drive. The only thing is dumb people are going to drive anyways and these gadgets make us all safer drivers.

I think a good cuppa Joe is the best safety device. When you're caffeinated you tend to look in your mirrors and turn your head to dbl check. I love back up cameras but they help the mirrors, not replace them. And in my mature state the rent on the Joe has to be paid every 2 hours so I get fresh air, a little jog, and blessed relief. Then back to driving wide awake and good for another 150 miles or so.

BTW, I'm a newb and I know the AC is LB. I want 4x4 on a TRD Sport and I'm finding that's a rare and wonderful thing.

I live in the south. I see 4x4 sports regularly.

Go on SEToyota and find the one of your choice.

    I totally agree.....

I hope the 'smart' people don't become 'dumb' because of these features. ;)

I think my husband has already become 'used' to his features on his SUV. When he drives my truck - he suddenly takes notice to what his features do for him. Where's the start button?? I can't see behind me...... LOL Ahhhh he's gotta think about what he's doing.

I don't know if it makes us safer drivers, the cars become safer....not sure about the nut behind the wheel becoming a better driver, the more we rely on machines, the more we loose skill sets.

:notsure: I don't see losing skills as being a problem since they are rarely actually lost. When cars came along most of the population lost the ability to ride on a horse or drive a carriage. However those skills still exist and are relatively simple to learn. Just because technology makes learning a certain skill less necessary doesn't mean that skill will go extinct.

I think what you are getting at is that people are lazy and won't learn a skill they don't have to. I have a bit more faith in humanity than that cynical view point. I see people all the time picking up extra skills they don't need. The dumb and lazy ones that don't weren't going to learn the skill properly anyways, which is why driving is becoming safer as the cars become safer. Check out the numbers on VSC before and after it existed and you'll see my point. I don't think any studies have been done on blind spot monitors or back up camera's but I'm sure they would paint the same picture.

It won't happen for a long time. Self drive requires an AI that's nearly fool proof or special roads worth 10x what normal roads are. The technological and cost barriers are to high for widespread adoption in the next 20 years.

I am thinking more on the lines of Carl Sagan.

"We live in a society exquisitely dependent on science and technology, in which hardly anyone knows anything about science and technology."
