I'm a HVACR guy so I have several digital thermometers, one of which always rides in my dash vents. The temp from the vents always is 8-10* higher than ambient. Is this normal for these trucks? The dash is black, so of course it gets hot in the sun, but I get the same temps if it's cloudy.

I've driven 20 miles with the windows down, fan full blast and still get the same temps. If I stop at a light for a minute, the temp goes up. It seems to me that either the heater valve isn't closing completely, or the blend door isn't closing completely, or maybe both. Of course I can kick on the AC which works well, but if it's only 75* out I shouldn't have to.

I'm a noob to a Tacoma, so any help will surely be appreciated.

it pulls heat from above the engine bay in the cowl so when not moving youre getting warmer air in that area

Both tacomas I've had were like this. Just hit the recirculate button so no air comes through the vents when the windows are down.

Sure, I expect that, but it doesn't cool back down nearly as fast as it heats up. It may be pulling engine heat even at highway speeds.

My '86 Jeep Comanche didn't warm the air like this either, which is why I am asking. I'm going for a ride right now with the recirc button on, will report back.

    Thanks for the replies!
