What's up Hunter, u know what's funny, after looking at like a million pedals, those were some that I really liked. Thanks. I should be getting my bike this week, then I'll post up some pics. But if anyone else has pics, please post them up.

They are very light for a framed egg beater. The model I have has been discontinued for a few years but you can still find them on eBay occasionally new in box

Hey fellas, finally picked up my first "real" mountain bike. I got this off a guy on craigslist for a pretty good deal, at least from the limited research that I have gathered. Anyways, the frame is a size medium, I am about 5'7". The issue I am having is that with this having the rear suspension, I am not able to adjust the seat low enough for the most ideal positioning. Currently, I can ride it just fine and it is fairly comfortable, but if I could get the seat down a little ways more I think it would make all the difference.

Having said that, and being a complete newb to the world of mountain biking, am I able to purchase a shorter seat post, if that is something that is even available? Or am I able cut the post down a ways or will that have a serious effect on the integrity of the post. You can see in the 2nd photo where there are small engravings in the post that state "minimum insert length".

Hope all this makes sense! Thanks in advance!

You can trim the seat post. Use a tubing cutter or maybe a hacksaw with a guide. Be sure to clean up the cut. Also, if you do that, realize you cannot move the seat up or not enough of the post will be clamped in the frame.

I just trimmed my seat post the other day. You can cut an inch or two off that one. I used a pipe cutter from Home Depot. You'll need one that can cut larger than 1 1/8" pipe.

You said that you are 5'7. If you are you should of bought a small framed bike. You have to lower the seat post and shorten up the stem so you are not so stretched out. You might also not be able to slide the seat up forward enough to get your knees over the pedals properly. At 5'7 you should be using 170 mm crack arms. That bike probably has 172.5 mm arms. If the arms are to long you will have pain in the back of your knees when you do long rides 25+ miles. Ebicycles has a bike size calculator and also look up how to get fitted for a mountain bike. I used to know the formula in my head but I have been out of bike racing for a long time. Probably not what you wanted to hear but you will ride better and moore comfortable on a properly fitted bike. Its your first bike. Trust me there will be others in your future. If you like to ride and ride often there will defenetly be others.

Almost embarrassed to post my bike given some of the others posted here. '12 Camber Comp 29er. Was part of Specialized's test bike program. Signed it out for the weekend and never took it back. Yes I did pay for it. Converted to 10 x 1 gearing, Wolf's Tooth 30 T chain ring. The 3G is my grocery getter, boardwalk cruiser. 3 sp, alloy frame & 3.45 tires. I wouldn't sweat cutting your post. You will still have plenty of insert length in the seat tube so safety shouldn't be a concern.

You can definitely use a pipe cutter, and that's probably ideal. But I have always used a hack saw with blade for metal, and a miter box. Have done 2 Fox forks and a Thomson post this way with excellent results. Then clean up the cut with a debur tool or just sandpaper.

Mine only costs me $550. I have a 2014 GT Aggressor 1.0. Only an entry level bike, but it's out of department store territory.

Spent the weekend busting out laps in Angel Fire. Sooooo much fun! After spending the entire winter pedaling, it's great to be back on the DH bike getting in some park laps
