I just recently purchased icon extended travel remote res coilovers and noticed that my swaybar rubs the springs on both sides is this common? what would be the best fix? The coilovers came with swaybar relocation brakets but icon said not to use them? Should I use the relocation brakets or not?

Remove the sway bar. Lots of people take them off (Im one of them) and love it. It rides a lot better without one

My only worry about removing completely is that I do a lot of highway driving do you how it would effect that?

Nope not unless you drive like its a rally truck swerving in and out. I commute 90% highway each day and I don't feel any difference. Only times I feel a difference is when I A) Have my RTT on the canopy and am going camping but even then it isn't bad, or B) You hit a pothole or bump and doesn't shake the truck nearly as much (positive difference). Honestly it is so quick to take on and off what I would do is take it off, try it. If you don't like it then it takes 5 minutes to put back on.

Take it off and give it a shot, if you don't like the way it drives without the sway bar you can buy a sway bar drop kit for about 20$ and put it back on...

Your safety is your decision, but the issue with removing the sway bar is not what driving feels like normally. It is what happens when you have to maneuver the truck to avoid a collision with something. This has nothing to do with driving your truck like a "rally car" or anything you have control over with careful driving habits. You can be a perfectly sane and careful driver, but when the moron in the opposite lane drifts into yours and the option is an abrupt movement or death you will find you want your sway bar unless you enjoy making a choice between a fatal rollover and a fatal head on.

So you can safely ignore every person that ever posts "took mine off and it drives fine" because the reality is they have no idea at all how it drives in an emergency situation. Fortunately we have organizations that do test such things and so we know removing the sway bar will greatly increase the risk of roll over in emergency maneuvering.

Once off road removing the sway bar to allow full articulation of the IFS can as people say can be a big improvement. There is no debate about that, and most trucks that are raced and trailered will almost always be missing the sway bar.

Unfortunately with the Tacoma there is no good way to have a sway bar quick disconnect as some vehicles do. So you can choose, better off road performance and more comfort over pot holes and speed bumps or actually living through an emergency maneuver in the unlucky event it happens. Many, even most, people will never have to maneuver their vehicle in an emergency enough that the sway bar will matter. So a whole bunch of people can take it off and no harm will come of it at all. But rollover accidents are very deadly - even with all sorts of air bags. Just do a search for "torn aorta" which is a common and often fatal injury in roll over accidents. So taking off the sway bar is not with out serious risks even if it "drives fine" and you are a "careful driver".

But life is full of risks, so it is up to you to decide the balance between performance "improvements" without a sway bar compared to the safety risks. Lifting your truck increases the risk of rollover too, but many of us do it anyway. The safest thing to do is not drive at all of course, but we all choose to drive anyway!

My advice would be to just use the sway bar relocation. It is cheap, easy, effective and is frequently necessary when using aftermarket coilovers. Only think about removing it entirely if you primarily drive your truck off road.

    Excellent summary DVexile.

I had mine off briefly and could easily feel the difference when intentionally driving to mimic evasive maneuvers. I did not like the feel and quickly reinstalled the sway bar. Your choice, your safety.
