Who still uses lacquer on their steel cased ammo? I know Wolf hasn't for years, nor has Tula

Probable causes are, Broken or damaged ejector, Extractor worn, under-powered ammo, dirty chamber or shooting with unlocked wrist, if it were mine I would change the ejector and extractor, give it a good cleaning and go from there.

Chiming in, believe I'm about settled on picking up a Glock 19 in Flat Dark Earth as my next gun purchase. Gen 4, 9mm.. Such a pretty piece of weaponry. It'll be my truck gun.

Just a normal cleaning though right? I've heard of one instance where the extractor was removed, the channel cleaned, reassembled, and that fixed the FTE's on a high round count, I believe, Gen 2.

I figure it will, but she wants to shoot as many as possible so I won't tell her not to shoot it.

I have a feeling she will like the M&P compact, she wasn't a fan of how narrow the shield is and she loves my full size M&P, it's just long in the grip and barrel for her to carry.

I can usually find decent deals.
I'm not LEO or military but family is LEO.

Both are on the list, she thinks the G19 will be a bit big, but I've found several forum members that are female and CC a G19.

On the list also, we'll see how she likes the 9.

My cousin has a CW40 (I think), nice shooting gun, Kahr is on the list also, but not a lot of local shops carry them.

Yep, I tried to tell him to let her shoot different guns and let her pick, but like normal he didn't listen, my sister wants to get hers soon so she can take mom shooting and train her on a semi-auto and let her convince dad what she wants.

I'm not telling her what to buy or what not to buy, but I'm definitely not encouraging "mouse guns" or .380.

On the list also, she liked the way they looked at bass pro (She said it looked comfortable).

She saw the G42, said it looked very concealable, they didn't have a 43 though.

They had a ruger compact at bass pro the other day, but it had a grip extension on it so she couldn't get a real good idea of the size.

She's also looking at the walthers, she shot my cousins' wifes p22 (her CCW) and really liked it, but doesn't want a .22, so we're gonna try to find a P99 locally.

I'll try to find some, any ammo that gets her shooting the weapon she has available I'll get for her.

Like everyone else has stated, give it a good going over. Back in the days of old (at least 5-6 years ago), many folks wouldn't clean their Glocks. I knew one guy that would "clean" his in his dishwasher! Crazy, right? If you haven't broken down the slide, do so.

Since it's a Gen 2 gun, don't be surprised if your extractor looks like this:

Take the slide full apart and give it a good cleaning. Throw in some new springs (OEM), and take it back to the range.

On the topic of a good carry gun:

I'm looking at getting the MP Shield .40. I like how narrow it is, and it felt comfortable when I held it at Academy. $389 isn't a bad price either and no need to ship of FFL transfer.

I have the Kahr CM9/CW9...I can never remember which, but it's the one without a safety...I don't like the fact that it doesn't have a safety. Other than that, it's a great size.

I love my Ruger SR9c, but it's a little wider than I'd like to have for a CC.

My wife carries the Ruger LCR in .38 spcl and loves it. She's shot it with practice ammo and the pink lite stuff from Hornady. She says she can't tell a difference in the recoil, so we are pretty sure that is just a marketing ploy. She's pretty darn accurate with it, even at a good distance, even though it has such a short barrel.

On the topic of the FTE:

I also vote for the giving it a good cleaning. I had that happen on my Beretta, but that was before I knew how to properly clean it. I think it was a combination of not being cleaned real well and cheap ammo. I doubt either of those are your problem though. Give it a good cleaning, and I'd replace those parts since you mention you have new ones on order anyway. I'd be very surprised if that combo (or just the cleaning) doesn't fix your issue.

Me either but I can dream!

@95taco if the 19 is too big then the 26 would probably be perfect and you still get a double stack mag!

Extractor def doesn't look like that from what I can see, but the little hook does appear to be worn down. I've ordered new parts and then I'm taking them to a coworker who is a Glock Armorer and he's gonna tear it down completely and do a good ultrasonic clean on it, check parts and then let me test fire it a few times.

Meh, I like sticking with stock configs because that's what I carry at work, and don't want to be in an adrenaline fueled situation and forget that I don't have a $3000 pimped out Glock etc...

I can only imagine. I'm not a leo, just a clueless college student :p

I never want to have to use a firearm in a defensive situation and I probably never will. I dont have any desire to change my g19 either but what salient arms does to some of those firearms is amazing

I believe the shield is offered with a thumb safety, I'm not sure though as I can't stand external safeties on firearms (especially CC/duty weapons)

Yeah, we're gonna shoot one soon and see how she likes it.

On another topic, I've been bitten by the bug to submit a form 1, and since I just finished my uppers I figure it makes more sense to build a suppressor instead of a SBR.

Has anyone designed/built their own suppressor? I think I have the main design/specs down, just not sure how I want to design the baffles, I think I want to try a K baffle design, but I'm still learning about how they work.
The blast baffle, and possibly the 2nd baffle also, will be made of inconel, and the others will be stainless.

The suppressor will be for 5.56, 6.8, .308, and .300 BLK.

Yup! The M&P Shield is available both with and without a manual safety. I bought one when they first came out and, back then, they only came with manual safeties. Nowadays, however, they are shipping shipping Shields in either configuration.

If you've got the capability of machining inconel you won't have a problem with the machine work.

I personally think that the first can I make will most likely be with K baffles, they are simple (as in not a complex monobaffle) and effective. And if you have access to a CNC you can program one and make however any you need.

If you really interested in building your own suppressor, you could check the NRA short term Gunsmithing courses out. They are week to 2 week long courses and you can take a variety of classes. I've done classes at Montgomery community college and I know that they have a suppressor class every summer.

    Here is the nra website

    http://www.nragunsmithing.com/

And Montgomery community college class list

    http://www.montgomery.edu/nra-registration-information/nra-courses.html

I'm taking the ruger single action class this summer with john Gallagher at MCC, I took large frame AR with Len Fagan last year. Came out with a super accurate .308 built on a black rain ordnance upper and lower set. It was cool because I was able to do all the lather work on it etc....

If you have any questions on the classes, message me, I'm happy to answer them

I personally don't have the capability of machining inconel, but I'm sure I know someone who can get me into a shop that has the tools, and I can do the machining.

I think I will understand them better if I can find some pictures and maybe a video illustration of the gasses flowing through them.

Those look cool, too bad the suppressor class is full.

Ehh, I like reinventing the wheel, and i like to do things my way.

I would like to dabble with different baffle designs as I get more experience with them though.

the SilencerTalk forum is the place to be if you want to make your own. Youll get help on everything from the design, paperwork, to machining. If you are even remotely considering making your own suppressor i would head over there and just browse for a bit. Youll find someone who has made the design you want (or dang close to it) and be able to get advice.
