All right, finally got mine in and working, fully tested and awesome!
It took some time but my buddy finally was able fit the deck in and it looks great!
Shane was awesome! He kept me updated on the progress and (at least that he showed ☺) never seemed annoyed with my dozens of emails. He even called me and gave me some tips when we were having trouble getting the deck in. Great guy! Thanks Shane!!
I installed the Bluetooth, HD, dual usb version of Shane's recommended receiver.

I also installed the firestick with a receiver that split the signal so I receive am/fm and cb all at once. Before I found the receiver I was going to just port it straight to the radio. The stations I listen to are a ways off and this set up allows me to receive HD and, so far, perfectly clear.

pretty slick Mod. have a friend with this and he loves it. My 15 has its back up camera integrated into the dash, not the mirror though so I think i will be forced to forgo the iPad dash

Mine was integrated in the deck too. I bought an aftermarket rear view mirror with the camera screen built inn and ran the wire up

When I looked into that, the mirror was insanely expensive. What did yours run you?

Insanely expensive. I think it was around 350. But I wanted the iPad in there and to keep my backup camera. I got mine from auto anything.

yea I don't really need a head unit to end up costing over a grand after the back up camera retention, ipad mount, head unit and iPad... if only it didn't have the camera in the dash! :annoyed:. Maybe I'll talk myself into it in the future to have Topo Maps right in the dash.

Yeah, it's not cheap but having topo plus three other mapping systems is great.

You can use a module to stream the backup camera wirelessly to the iPad in dash. It will take a bit of wiring, and you will have to tap an app to display it (no coming on automatically when in reverse).

I believe you can use this module and wire it up to work with your OEM camera. http://www.4ucam.com/iphone-android-ipad-WIFI-Backup-Camera.html#specification

Guys, I could possibly rig up a raspberry pi to accomplish everything mentioned here. Not sure about using an iPad thought. Lots to consider. But the Pi could be configured to intercept backup, and allow for a view from the driving position. Perhaps someone with more time could look into it.
    Rasperry Pi, with android.

How do you like the viper smartstart? I have been thinkin about getting it but I'm not sure if it would be worth it. Is it reliable?

I used to have it in my last Tacoma. It's pretty awesome. I used to love being able to start up my truck with the heater or A/C on ahead of having to get in it on cold / hot days.

It's very very reliable and I like it. I don't have the remote start because mine is manual and I'd have to remember to hit clutch start cancel before I got out every time. I do love how I can check the status and track my truck. I find it to be worth it. I bought the 3 year contract for $299 or something like that. Cheaper that way

Ah, that's the one thing pushing me away from it right now. The subscription fees.

I used to get it for $1 per year when I was an employee at an authorized dealer. :bananadead:

Possibly. That'd be a pretty expensive setup for a backup camera, though.

Yea Ive been doing my research on some workarounds with this configuration and retaining oem back up functionality but haven't found much that is a cost effective operation. Being of the kinesiology background and not electrical engineering I'll be hard pressed to deconstruct componentry and rebuild without some solid instructions unfortunately haha. I'll be keeping an eye on this to see what others do in the future as I'm not the only one with this issue For sure
