I recently figured out why my sound and connection when playing music through the AUX was so bad. I have a 2010 and the AUX option was pretty much unusable for me. Sometime it wouldn't work at all, and the rest of the time it would be only playing through the passenger side. It turns out that the plug cover would lean down on the cable and cause the issues. I'm probably going to cut the cover off.

Sorry if this has already been discussed, but I've had my truck for over 5 years and only now figured this out. I figured it was worth posting in case it helps any one else with this same issue.

Have you tried a better 3.5mm cable? The cheap ones will flex.

I did buy one because I thought my old cord was no good. The problem persisted which clued me in to checking the plug. That's when it occurred to me that the cover leans down on the cord. Once I lifted the cover up, all the sound problems went away. I suppose a cord with a longer male connector might work fine as well.

I originally wanted to upgrade the whole sound system and get a double DIN, but opted to save the money.

I thought AUX sounded like crap too til I found out that each function (AM, FM1, FM2, Disc, and AUX) has their own sound profile setting. I'd set the stereo (2011 JBL 6 CD changer with XM) to BAS 0, MID 5 and TRE 5 while in Disc mode, thinking this setting will stay this way even if I select another source. Then I discovered FM 2's settings were all at 0. Checked AUX and it was the same thing. So I changed the settings while in AUX and now it sounds a lot better than before.

I didn't realize the settings were unique to each mode. Thanks for the info.

I did not know this either. I will have to check this tomorrow. my problem is AUX sounds good but FM sounds like the speakers are blown.
