Honestly, truck will probably be perfectly okay. As mentioned above, it's freshwater so not really a huge corrosion concern. Simple steps can get the interior perfectly dry with no mildew. Electronics are pretty resilient actually and most are sealed quite well. I only say all of this because I was working in the car business after Katrina. It's amazing at how many cars came through that had been underwater but no insurance claims made and thus, clean titles. Most seemed perfectly fine.

All that being said, I'd push to total it just to clear my mind of it all and it shouldn't be hard to do.

Im just saying.... if i knew it was raining hard... harder than it ever had in 20 years id keep an eye out and maybe find a spot to park the truck thats high up. Its also why i dont park in an area with trees on windy days etc etc. preplanning folks, it goes a long way.

Not trying to down on the OP at all. It sucks big time the truck is now totaled, i wouldnt accept anything less.

I'd bet more then just that parking lot was flooded. Kind of hard to find a dry spot real quick when it's flooded everywhere around you. I have family that live near a river in Austin area, river rose 20+ feet in an hour.

We had a crazy flood here last year in Florida. Left school to grab food and it was just starting to rain. Back on campus 10 minutes later and the parking lots are flooded. Couldn't leave b/c the road was deeper. There was a camaro completely under water in the street in a matter of 20 minutes. All the cars were sitting ducks. Not to mention 1/2 the people didn't even know it was that bad since rain is a common occurrence.

Sometimes there's nothing you can do but sit back and watch.

No reason to be dicks on here people.

Yeah, could have moved the car sure. Did I make the best decision, obviously not or we wouldn't be here talking about this. But given the circumstances I had no reason to believe it would flood in the garage (never had before in any of the major storms), the rain wasn't forecast to be that heavy so thus the bayou wasn't expected to flood, and the significant flooding happened between 12-4am while most people, myself included, were sleeping. It wasn't the hardest rain in 20 years, it was the most significant flooding in 20 years on the bayou and the biggest non-hurricane related flood there in recent times too. I guarantee you no one on here regrets or can second guess the decisions that led up to this more than me.

I was hoping for some constructive comments on here and thoughts/stories on if people have had or seen similar sorts of deals, that's all guys.

Sorry for your loss. But that's what insurance is for, as long as you have it.

I guess you've never had to deal with a natural disaster like this. Hope that you don't because if fucking sucks being completely unable to prevent it from happening.

Thanks man. Yeah the insurance is going to take care of it and they got me a rental car in the mean time.

Yeah first natural disaster that's really affected me. I'm from Colorado originally so flooding itself isn't new but never had it affect my house or car. It is a pretty helpless feeling watching the water rise and knowing there's nothing you can do at that point, maybe if I was there an hour or two earlier but when I first saw it, it was a disheartening feeling for sure.

This is AkArin's dream truck. He'd flip that bitch for like new price :smack:

OP, sorry you have to go through this. In reality, the truck could probably be just fine with some elbow grease. If it was mine, I'd rather it be totaled and start over. I didn't look, but hope you don't have a bunch of coin into mods on her.

Hey there TrdSurgie, me and another poster were referring to the guy who told him "to find a better spot". Read the chatter and correct yourself.

Sorry for your loss man. It's good to know that you're safe because that's what really matters though! If totaled, any plans on getting a 3rd gen?

Thanks man. Not sure yet actually. I'm trying to not get ahead of myself and wait and see what happens and how much I get for it. I might do a 3rd gen one, possibly just get another '13 and ride that out for a couple years. I'm intrigued by the new Colorado's as well, might have to go check them out. Then there's always the option of moving to a full size or even going for the midlife crisis car haha.

I sure it will run again, but not worth dealing with hassles down the road with electronics.

Well (finally!) heard back from the adjuster today, they're going to total the car. I really feel bad about saying this but I'm glad they did, I think the potential for future trouble in the electrical would have been a nightmare for me. Not quite my thing in chasing down all those gremlins in the future. Off to see decide whether to get a new one, another make, or even go used this time.

Hope you get a new truck.

Sadly some crooked car sales place may try to clean it up and sell with a clean title.
