Hey guys, I recently installed a new head on my truck (1999 3rz). I did it all my self and it was the first time ive ever done something like that. I got it running and everything seems to be working fine...except when i accelerate there seems to be some hesitation or stumbling. Im thinking it may be my timing? Im not sure how to check my timing, and adjust it. I could use some help! Thanks

I just did my head gasket, first time doing anything that deep also. I'm assuming the cams are aligned and the chain was good, because otherwise you would have had what I had going on, which was misfires at low rpms.

You're running on coil packs too, right?

When I did mine I ended up using the paint markings to align the camshafts instead of the dots, being one tooth off was my problem. But even after fixing that, the first 30 miles felt really sluggish. It got better and better through the drive though. I'm assuming that the engine just had to work itself back up from all the cleaning I did and gunking it up with the misfires.

If you're harmonic balancer still has your tdc markings you can try the timing light, and you're going to check the markings on you're harmonic balancer to your little tdc guide right by the harmonic balancer.

If the engine itself sounds right, odbII shows no misfires at idle, I would say mechanical timing would be fine, unless your timing chain is stretching under torque.

Sorry for the long post, hopefully it was a little helpful.
