I recommend no Kimber. Though I love mine. Springfield is a better value, and if I wanted more than they offer, Les Baer

    I'd hope he's chosen a 1911 by now...that post is 3 years old

Also to :stirthepot: I just sold a Kimber Tactical Ultra II

I had it from 2011-2015, and it was used and of unknown age when I bought it. External extractor and everything. No issue whatsoever. Reliable, easy, and comfy. I paid around $500 with 5 Wilson Combat mags, 50 rounds, and a holster.

Definately spend the money to get a good riggers belt. Like firearms you get what you pay for.

Just to throw it out there I wouldn't plan on using a riggers belt to rappel with in anything but a life or death situation. Your organs will thank you. If you do decide to make sure it's rated too lol

I don't plan on rappelling ever. I wear a riggers belt for rescue purposes. I keep a harness and 2 carabiners in my active shooter bag. I can get to the D ring on the riggers belt without removing my duty belt. Harness on injured party, biner attaches to D ring like below, but no need to use a hand

    Fluke with that external extractor!
I don't imagine you lost much on resale. $500 is a great buy.

I have never sold a gun for a loss. 5 I've sold for lower than I paid, but all 5 have my name attached to them in 2 different wills. a couple I've sold for what I paid, some I've traded up, and 2 I've sold for for upwards of $300 profit each

I think mine only took 2 weeks to get to me. But it was an EDC low pro, which I feel like is the "simplest" to make.

I have made money only on the M1A I sold. But I've only sold 4 firearms.

I'm a sucker for a good deal, then inevitably, I can't shoot the stupid gun, or want something different, or just don't have a use for it. I've now narrowed down my interests and skillset to Glock pistols. I'll likely not buy anymore long guns, as I barely shoot the ones I have and don't hunt.

I've sold a Walther P22, Moss 500, Ruger Super Blackhawk, Taurus Judge, Ruger LCP and Charter Mag Pug with agreements that I get them back in the wills.
Sold an XDm 45 for $300 more than I paid for it thanks to politically driven rushes.
Traded a Ruger LCP for a Glock 17. Traded the Glock 17 and $100 for the Kimber. Sold the Kimber for $400 more than I had in it.
Traded a S&W Bodyguard in on another LCP.
Traded an XD40 away (I was 2nd owner) on a NIB Glock 27.
Traded a Ruger Redhawk that I had $300 in on a Glock 20SF plus ammo.
Traded a S&W 629-4 with scope in on a PSA AR Pistol (Had $500 into the S&W)
Traded the PSA AR Pistol and a Keltec PF9 into a Glock 17 and 35
Sold a Hi-Standard Vietnam era pump shotgun for $50 more than I paid for it

I've got a couple of SOE belts around here somewhere...bought my first one (combined with a thigh holster for an M9). Held up during my tour in Iraq very well.

On a whim several years ago, I ordered a Wilderness Frequent Flyer belt. My 2nd John Willis belt soon went by the wayside.

My FF is one of the polymer-lined models. It's thinner, lighter, and more supportive - especially for concealed carry.

Try it - you'll like it.

On the subject of belts, and as much as I love the FF models, I'll probably pick one of these up:

Ares Gear's been making kick-ass belts for a while. Their Cobra buckled belt (the Ranger) was probably one of the more copied designs out there. This belt, called the AEGIS, offers the support and durability of the Ranger, but in a more simplified fashion.

I've been using The Wilderness Original Instructor belts for about ten years now. 1.5", "3-stitch" stiffness. 1.5" is plenty wide enough for holsters, and fits every belt loop I own. Once in awhile the 1.5" buckle will dig in when sitting, so I can't imagine dealing with the 1.75" larger buckle.
I'll never repel either, so I don't need a separate d-ring on the belt. The buckle does have a ring built into it but it's not obtrusive. I use it all the time to attach my dog's leash with a d-ring.
I've had a Blackhawk and a London Bridge Trading(LBT was too floppy)belt issued to me and they've both been given away.
My only gripe with any riggers belt is the weight of the buckle. You learn real quick to be careful dropping trow, or risk smashing a toe lol...or chipping a toilet. The Wilderness had a titanium buckle for awhile, and I had planned on getting one. Now I'm not seeing it. They also used to let you send in your old buckle to be transferred to a new belt. I need to check if that's still available as I'm due for a new one.

    Made in the USA too.
    instructorbelt_15_coy_500.jpg

EDIT: Yes, rebuilds are still available. Buckle not refinished. $10 credit.

Looks like the titanium model was discontinued so my only option there is to find a used one and send in the buckle, unless they happen to have some not listed on the site.

^ The buckle thing's one of the reasons I went with the Frequent Flyer. Yeah, it's a little too 1970's with the twin Delrin rings, but it's comfortable.

You can reload steel, just a pain in the butt.

I was on a forum for a while where a few of the guys reloaded US military surplus steel cased .45 acp ammo. Yes, the U.S. military did have some steel cases .45, I've actually got a box. It's boxer primed and from the results the guys were getting they could get quite a few loadings out of the brass
