I'm no stereo guru and I've only installed one single din unit years ago. Everyone said a double din unit is no different so I tried tonight and when I turned the truck on I heard a humming noise getting louder and louder so I turn the truck off. The pioneer harness is wired to the interface, color for color. It's wiring the other end of the interface to the factory wiring is where I think I went wrong. I connected them to what I thought were the right colors but I guess I was wrong. Below are the wires that I messed up on:

In order from left to right the colors are yellow, black, red, and orange. I tried looking for a harness with those colored wires and thought I had it right. Any suggestions on where I might have gone wrong? The interface instructions say the yellow goes to the 12 volt battery/memory wire, black to the ground wire, red to the accessory/ignition wire, and orange to the illumination wire.

Edit: Upon further inspection, the 4 wires I asked about - the red, yellow, and black have 2 wires on the same pin of the connector; 2 red wires, 2 black wires, and 2 yellow wires. One set of those are wired into the interface connector. So, should the wires pictured above just be taped off and not used?

There seems to be quite a lack of information needed to diagnose whatever problem it is you may be having but...

The yellow, black, and red wires are all mandatory to an aftermarket radio install. The illumination (orange) is not necessarily needed, and on some units, I prefer to not hook it up at all.

    Yellow is +12v constant

    Red is +12v accessory (key)

    Black is ground.

Are you using a wiring harness to connect your aftermarket radio harness? You should be, and if you are, this should be very easy.

I'm assuming that I've missed some sort of important info here, so a better picture or description of what you're doing would be helpful.

In this picture the white connector hooks into the factory harness but the 4 wires shown in the first post didn't work out so I guess I wired it wrong. The other small black connector is what plugs into the head unit.

OK. So, if there are any wires coming out of the box that are the same color as the wires coming out of the white plug (Like the ones in question) DO NOT CONNECT THEM TO THE HARNESS. Namely Red, Brown, Light Green, Blue / Pink, Green / Purple, Orange / White.

The wires coming out of the white plug need to be wired directly into the radio harness, bypassing the box. Connect them color for color. After that, it should be plug and play. If those connections are made correctly, don't get discouraged and question your wiring straight away. These interfaces can be iffy from time to time. Look at the troubleshooting steps at the back of that manual to see if you can identify any other issues.

Oh ok. So the wires from the white connector get wired to the radio connector. Not spliced into the factory harness. If that's the case, the radio harness has a orange and white wire, does the all orange wire connect to that? Other than that both sides have the same color wires.

Also, the wire for the parking brake sensor, that just hooks up to any bolt connected to the sensor. Correct? Sorry for all the questions. I REALLY appreciate all the help. I figured out that the orange wire does wire into the orange and white wire so everything should be ready to go in again. Just wanted to clarify on the parking break wire.

I did a few installs, as long as you know what is what it's really easy. I soldered everything and sealed it with shrink tubing because I had some problems with other connectors in the past

Right on. I'm not that skilled since this is only my 2nd install, lol. I just used butt connectors, crimped them really good, and then wrapped with electical tape. After that I zip tied all the wiring together to make it cleaner and not have wires everywhere. As for the parking brake wire, I think I remember seeing the old one still connected from when my first pioneer hu was stolen. I'll probably just tap into that one instead of removing the old one and running the new one. I'll see what route I want to take when I get the dash pulled back out. I'm on daddy duty right now so I won't be able to attempt all this until the wife gets home around 4.
