I have a '96 Tacoma 2.7 4x4.I washed the engine compartment then let it sit in the sun to dry.Started truck later and battery warning light came on.Put meter on battery(engine running)Showed 14.4V.Truck off, battery showed 12.3V.Pulled all fuses I could find then reseated them.Pulled all connectors I could find and reconnected them.Dried the alternator with compressed air.Belts are new and tight. No change, battery warning light still on.Also I noticed the DRLs don't work. It's been 4 days,no change.I run the truck daily and see no change in engine performance or battery power.I am at a loss as to what is going on.

Disconnect the battery for like....10 minutes. Just to see if that resets something in the ECU. Good Luck!

The battery warning light is an indicator of a miss match of voltage between the charging system and and the battery. The most common cause is terminal corrosion followed by an unhealthy battery or charging system. Most auto parts or battery stores will test the battery and charging system at no cost and it only takes a few minutes.

I would bet you have some water in the alternator plug which is causing the charge light to remain on.

It may dry out by itself or you might have to take the plug apart.

As long as it continues to charge .
