Got a little done on the Runner today. New front shock mounts burned in and both shocks installed. Only things left, longer wheel studs need to be installed on the passenger side front, clean and reassemble one lockout hub and alignment.

Rock Assault housing, the tubes are 5/16's thick. Truthfully I never even thought about gusseting them. Has any one had issues bending them at the balls?

I haven't added to this tread in a while. So here's a couple pictures from some boring body work this Saturday. When I bought my 4 Runner it had Bushwacker fender flares on it, kind of liked the look, but they were concealing a fair amount of rust front and rear. So knowing I was going to keep the flares I did a hack job on the rear fenders and just covered it with the flares. After wheeling the Runner and ripping the flares off everytime I decided to ditch them. I finally started to make the repair look half way decent in preparation for a paint job. I still have a little more work to do on the driver side and all of the passenger side, by the difference so far looks pretty good.

Wow that's a co-inky-dink; Natty (Mom christened her Natty meaning Not A Tacoma Thank You, haha) replaced a Honda too. :D

Oh, and I love her. She's definitely my preferred ride over the OGT when running around town. Need to upgrade the suspension though. Ironically, she doesn't ride nearly as nice as the OGT. Need to get some 5100s and 5125s for her. I think she ride a lot better then.

The tech part of doing fenders and quarters like this I saw on the power block years ago on Spike. On of the guys used 1/4 inch steel rod to form the new shape for the fender on a Ford Ranger they had flared. It gives a nice rolled edge and puts some strength back in the panel, especially the fenders. Use a series of tacks, jumping around so you don't over heat an area. Then grind it all smooth and body work the panel. I'll be using seam sealer on the inside of the panel too. The wheel wells are going to get a nice coating of black truck bed liner as a final finish. The inside will have a sound dampener sprayed on to help with the buzzes and rattles of a 27 year old vehicle.

Hopefully I'll have time for paint later this month...

I've been slowly but surely doing the body work on my Runner. The hood and one fender are in primer and ready for paint. The fenders were previously trimmed and the holes from the Bushwacker flares that use to be on there have been filled. I'm pretty happy with how this one turned out. The blotchiness at the rear of the fender is just from the lighting. It's all pretty smooth and straight.

Pulling the rear bumper tomorrow and cutting my rock sliders off. I have a little rust repair in the rocker panels and then I'll shoot the primer on the rest of it. Only a little more sanding to go.20170225_172556.jpg
