Yes they are proven for 10 years to have bad wheel bearings, crappy leaf springs, seat material that stains with water. Poor frames, and I am sure people can add more.

First gens had terrible frames too lol. So yes they are similar.

The motor, transmission, and other powertrain parts on both have been shown to hold up extremely well. Both trucks have faults too. First gens have that annoying timing belt and are relatively gutless. The second gens have bad front wheel bearings and crappy leaf springs. I find the seat material on the TRD trucks far superior to what is offered on the first generation Tacoma.

I have the 2.7 stick. I had the same on 1st gen. I believe it 2 B as reliable as to motor and trans. The front driver side wheel bearing went. Was OK on my 1st gen when the frame rusted out. I figured they wouldn't correct the frame problem so I take care of it myself and don't have any problem. My water pump went on my 1st gen so I change my coolant regularly so the water pump and radiator will hopefully last.

Had a first gen, was ultra reliable. My 08 in one year of me owning it has needed-
    Front wheel bearings both sides
    Compass thermometer needed fixing
Park brake sticking and needed a tear down and lubricating
Lower control arm adjustment cams seized
Fuel door hinge rusted and rubs on the paint
    Frame surface rust requiring coating
    Broken rear leaf drivers side

Engine and trans are solid. My truck has 120km, or approx 80k miles.

Doesn't seem to be nearly as well built as my first gen, or I bought a lemon. I've read a lot on this forum, and lots of other owners have the same problems with their 2nd gens.

You didn't buy a lemon, these things sell themselves all day long. Toyota knows that, and could give two fucks about correcting the problem. Otherwise ten years wouldn't have gone by with the same faulty issues. Corporate greed is all they care about, and don't think the 2016 isn't gonna have a whole new set of issues

My 07 had 200k km on the odo and the only thing i did to it was change the front left wheel bearing, hence why I bought another one.
