Thanks guys for all the input and suggestions. My truck is a manual transmission. For those that suggested it, I think the oil has to be blowing in from the engine on a wire through a gasket, because I realized there is also a leak somewhere near the back of the engine (drips only when the nose of the truck is tilted slightly up). It is not obvious where the oil would be passing trough the firewall, looking at it topside, but I will take it back to the mechanic to have him check more thoroughly underneath as I am not equipped to do that myself. The picture, mwrohde, is taken as if I stuck my head above the brake and clutch pedals and looked under the dash towards the seats.

For oil to be coming through the firewall there would be oil all over the firewall and dripping down onto the ground when your truck is parked.

The best way to determine the type of fluid it is is to taste and smell it. All automotive fluids have distinct bouquets.

The speedo cable may not have trans fluid in it at all (regardless of the trans type). They often contain their own internal lubrication.

That said, my fluids of choice are.............

Speedo cable weeping from a bad seal. Future would hold a noisy speedo on cold mornings, followed by a jumpy speedo needle, followed by failure.

Bad brake booster cylinder bleeding in cab via the brake rod

Bad clutch master bleeding in cab via the clutch rod
